Negativland EPs
Negativland is an American experimental music band that originated in the San Francisco Bay Area in the late 1970s. The core of the band consists of Mark Hosler, David Wills (aka "The Weatherman"), Peter Conheim and Jon Leidecker (aka "Wobbly"). Negativland has released a number of albums ranging from pure sound collage to more musical expositions. These have mostly been released on their own label, Seeland Records. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, they produced several recordings for SST Records, most notably '' Escape from Noise'', ''Helter Stupid'' and '' U2''. Negativland were sued by the band U2's record label, Island Records, and by SST Records, which brought them widespread publicity and notoriety. The band, along with the Church of the SubGenius parody religion and other "creative" types, were among those given a free website by the University of North Carolina back in 1994 just to see what these creative types would do with a website. Concord ( ) is the most populous city in Contra Costa County, California, Contra Costa County, California, United States. ''JAMCON '84'' was the first volume in the ''Over the Edge'' series, which distills portions of Negativland's radio program '' Over the Edge'', broadcast on KPFA. This album was edited together from at least three different broadcasts recorded between January and July 1985. The first program, "JAMCON '84," consists of Tracks 1 - 5, and is presented as a radio documentary covering a convention of amateur radio jammers, with commentary on radio jamming and culture jamming, and the history and cultures surrounding them. A disc jockey, more commonly abbreviated as DJ, is a person who plays recorded music for an audience. Kazoo
The kazoo is a musical instrument that adds a ''buzzing'' timbral quality to a player's voice when the player vocalizes into it. It is a type of '' mirliton'' (itself a membranophone), one of a class of instruments that modify the player's voice by way of a vibrating membrane of goldbeater's skin or material with similar characteristics. "I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For" is a song by Irish rock band U2. It is the second track from their 1987 album '' The Joshua Tree'' and was released as the album's second single in May 1987. The song was a hit, becoming the band's second consecutive number-one single on the US ''Billboard'' Hot 100 while peaking at number six on the UK Singles Chart. The song originated from a demo the band recorded on which drummer Larry Mullen Jr. played a unique rhythm pattern. Like much of ''The Joshua Tree'', the song was inspired by the group's interest in American music. Kemal Amin "Casey" Kasem (April 27, 1932 – June 15, 2014) was an American disc jockey, actor, and radio presenter who created and hosted several radio countdown programs, notably ''American Top 40'', as well as the weekly syndicated television series ''America's Top 10''. He was the first actor to voice Shaggy Rogers in the ''Scooby-Doo'' franchise (1969 to 1997 and 2002 to 2009) and Dick Grayson/Robin in ''Super Friends'' (1973–1985). David Brom
David Francis Brom (born October 3, 1971) is an American mass murderer. He killed his parents, brother and sister with an axe in February 1988 at the family's home in Rochester, Minnesota, after an argument with his father. Crimes In the early evening of February 18, 1988, Olmsted County sheriff's deputies discovered the bodies of Bernard (43), Paulette (42), Diane (13), and Richard (11) Brom in the Brom family home. Christianity Is Stupid
"Christianity Is Stupid" is a song from Negativland's 1987 concept album, ''Escape from Noise''. Background In the song, Negativland rearranges words and phrases to form a different meaning. They sampled phrases from a sermon by Estus Pirkle (from his 1968 LP, ''If Footmen Tire You, What Will Horses Do?'', itself later adapted into a film of the same name). Pirkle's narrative included an imagined visit to the US under Communism where public loudspeakers constantly proclaim "Christianity is stupid! Communism is good! Give up!" These phrases were altered and mixed with appropriately march-like heavy metal music and various other sound effects. In 2004, the song was made into a video entitled "The Mashin' of the Christ" that sampled many Jesus Christ-topic films and footage from Marxist-Leninist countries.
