Nazarian or Nazaryan () is an Armenian surname, and its meaning can be roughly translated into "son of Nazar." The surname is also commonly used in families coming from Iran in addition to Armenia. Angella Nazarian is an American former academic, non-fiction author, conference organizer and philanthropist. Stepanos Nazarian
Stepanos Nazarian or Nazariants (, , – ) was a Russian Armenian publisher, enlightener, literary historian and Orientalist. Biography Stepanos Nazarian was born in 1812 into the family of a priest who had moved to Tiflis (modern-day Tbilisi, Georgia, then in the Russian Empire) from Khoy in northwestern Iran. He received his earliest education at home from a local cleric. In 1824, he entered the newly founded Nersisian School, where he was influenced by his teacher Harutiun Alamdarian and his fellow student Khachatur Abovian. He excelled at the Nersisian School and learned Russian, Persian and French in addition to Armenian. With the help of Abovian and the latter's mentor Friedrich Parrot, Nazarian entered the Dorpat gymnasia (in modern-day Tartu, Estonia) in 1833, becoming its first Armenian student. Hrand Nazariantz
Hrand Nazariantz (Հրանտ Նազարեանց, January 8, 1886 – January 25, 1962) was an Ottoman Empire, Ottoman Armenians in the Ottoman Empire, Armenian poet and translator who lived most of his life in Italy. Biography Born in the Üsküdar district of Istanbul, Constantinople on January 8, 1880, he was the son of Diran Nazariantz, a businessman and member of the Armenian National Assembly from the district of Kumkapı, and Azniv Merametdjian. He attended the Berberian School, Berberian College from 1898, but he was expelled because of a relationship with another future writer, Mannig Berberian, daughter of Reteos Berberian, founder and owner of the college, and for asking her to marry him. Rafael Nazaryan (, born on 26 March 1975 in Yerevan, Soviet Union) is a retired Armenian football midfielder and a current manager. Armen Nazaryan (, born 20 June 1982, in Hrazdan, Armenian SSR) is an Armenian judoka. Nazaryan was awarded the Master of Sport of Armenia, International Class title in 2005. Biography Armen Nazaryan started judo in 1990 in the Sports School of Hrazdan. Nazaryan was first interested in boxing, but moved to judo in 1993. Since 1995, he has been trained by Karen Abagyan. In 2003, he became the Youth European Champion and won a bronze medal at the adult 2003 European Judo Championships. He won a bronze medal again at the 2004 European Judo Championships the following year and competed at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens. Nazaryan won a gold medal at the 2005 European Judo Championships in Rotterdam in the weight category of 60 kg. Armen Nazaryan (, , born 9 March 1974) is an Armenian Greco-Roman wrestler who later represented Bulgaria. Nazaryan is a two-time Olympic Champion (1996, 2000), a three-time World Champion (2002, 2003, 2005), and a six-time European Champion (1994, 1995, 1998, 1999, 2002, 2003). After Armenia regained independence in 1991, Nazaryan became the first Olympic gold medalist for the country. He was recognized by the FILA as the best wrestler of the year in 1998 and 2003.
