In human development, muteness or mutism is defined as an absence of speech, with or without an ability to hear the speech of others. Mutism is typically understood as a person's inability to speak, and commonly observed by their family members, caregivers, teachers, doctors or speech and language pathologists. It may not be a permanent condition, as muteness can be Cause (medicine), caused or manifest due to several different phenomena, such as physiological injury, illness, medical side effects, psychological trauma, Developmental disorder, developmental disorders, or Neurological disorder, neurological disorders. Mute (short Story)
"Mute" is a crime short story by author Stephen King, first published in '' Playboy'' magazine in 2007 and subsequently collected in his work '' Just After Sunset'' in 2008. Plot summary Monette, a middle-aged traveling book salesman (his first name is never given), goes to confession. When the priest asks him what sin he has committed, Monette admits that he believes he has sinned in some way but is not entirely sure exactly what he is guilty of. He then explains the events of the preceding days. While on the road, Monette picked up a hitchhiker carrying a sign proclaiming him to be both deaf and mute. Once in the car, the hitchhiker seemingly fell asleep. Since Monette believed the man could not hear him, he decided to vent his problems to him. Some time before the story, Monette discovered that his wife had been carrying on an affair for two years with a teacher in the school district she worked for. Professional mourning or paid mourning is a type of public performance in which actors pretend to grieve for the recently deceased, with the goal of being indistinguishable from real mourners. As an occupation it originates from Egyptian, Chinese, Mediterranean and Near Eastern cultures. Professional mourners, also called wailers, moirologists, or mutes, are compensated to lament or deliver a eulogy and help comfort and entertain the grieving family, or to improve the public spectacle of the funeral.
