Bombo, New South Wales
Bombo is a suburb of the Municipality of Kiama, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located north of Kiama. Etymology Bombo is derived from "Thumbon", the name of a renowned headman and warrior born in this district. Infrastructure Bombo is the gateway between Kiama and its northern suburbs, Kiama Downs and Minnamurra. The Princes Highway runs through Bombo. In November 2005 a new six lane road opened replacing the original two lane road. Bombo railway station opened in 1887 as the terminus of the Illawarra railway line. In 1893 the line was extended to Kiama. It is the closest railway station to the Pacific Ocean in New South Wales. In the 1950s the New South Wales Government Railways established a ballast quarry. Jamberoo, New South Wales
Jamberoo is a village on the South Coast of New South Wales, Australia in the Municipality of Kiama. It is approximately 11.3 km inland from Kiama. At the , Jamberoo had a population of 1,910. Foxground, New South Wales
Foxground is a locality in the Municipality of Kiama, in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia. It is located two kilometres from the Princes Highway, 20 kilometres south west of Kiama. Broughton Creek flows through the valley. The name ''Foxground'' is derived from the once abundant grey-headed flying foxes. Foxground was originally known as "The Flying Foxes Camping Ground". The indigenous people of this area are from the Wadi Wadi and Yuin tribes. The first white men to explore the valley were likely to be cedar cutters in the 1820s or possibly earlier. As early as 1814, cedar cutters explored the area around nearby Gerringong. In 1890 explosions were detonated in an attempt to remove the flying foxes. Carrington Falls, New South Wales
The Carrington Falls is a plunge waterfall across the Kangaroo River located in the Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. Location and features The falls are situated where the river crosses the western escarpment of the Budderoo Plateau to descend to the Kangaroo Valley. Located east-southeast of , the falls are protected within the Budderoo National Park, at an approximate elevation of Australian Height Datum, above sea level and descend approximately from the plateau to the valley floor. The recreation facilities near the top of the waterfall were severely damaged by a bushfire in May 2016 and remained closed for repair until December 2018. The recreation facilities (Thomas Place picnic area) and three eastern lookouts were reopened to the public in January 2019. Budderoo National Park
The Budderoo National Park is a national park which is located in the Illawarra region of New South Wales, Australia and is situated approximately south southwest of Sydney. Location and features The National Parks & Wildlife Service managed park is best known for the timber boardwalk through the Minnamurra rainforest. The park features waterfalls, picnic and barbecue areas, and a visitors centre. Budderoo is part of the Budderoo and Barren Grounds Important Bird Area which contains large numbers of endangered eastern bristlebirds, as well as smaller numbers of pilotbirds and rockwarblers, in a mosaic of sandstone heath and eucalypt woodland habitats. The Barren Grounds Nature Reserve is a state park, protected nature park located in the Southern Highlands (New South Wales), Southern Highlands region of New South Wales, Australia. The reserve is situated east of Budderoo National Park, and west of the city of Kiama, New South Wales, Kiama. The reserve can also be accessed from the south, via a local road and a bush walk from the town of Berry, New South Wales, Berry. It is not far from the Nameless Sylvan Reserve owned by Bush Heritage Australia. The nature reserve has several good lookouts that offer views of the coast.
