The article lists all the urban local bodies, covering municipal corporations, municipalities and nagar panchayats in the Indian state of Telangana. The statistical data is based on the 2011 Census of India, conducted by The Office of the Registrar General and Census Commissioner, under the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India. In India, the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), also called municipalities, are self-government institutions responsible for the administration of cities, towns, and transitional areas within a state or Union Territory. The 74th amendment to the Constitution of India in 1992 provided constitutional framework for the establishment of Urban Local Bodies. There are three types of Urban Local Bodies in India, which include municipal corporations governing large urban areas, municipal councils governing smaller urban areas, and nagar panchayats governing transitional areas from rural to urban. They are established by individual state governments and can differ in names, election method, or tier structure. The classification of these areas is at the discretion of the states, considering factors such as total population, population density, non-agricultural employment, annual revenue generation, among other criteria. Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation
The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is the civic body that oversees Hyderabad, the capital and largest city of the Indian state of Telangana. It is the local government for the city of Hyderabad. It is one of the largest municipal corporations in India with a population of 7.9 million and an area of 650 km2. History Hyderabad Municipal Board (1869–1933) In 1869, municipal administration was first introduced for the city of Hyderabad. The city of Hyderabad was divided into four and the suburbs of Chaderghat were divided into five divisions. Warangal District
Warangal district (formerly Warangal Rural district) is a district in the Indian state of Telangana. The district shares boundaries with Mahabubabad, Jangaon, Hanamkonda, Mulugu and Bhupalpally districts. As of June 2021, Hanamkonda tentatively serves as the district headquarters of both Hanamkonda and Warangal districts. Warangal city is proposed to replace Hanamkonda as the new headquarters of the Warangal district. The district was formed in 2016 by carving out Warangal Rural district from the erstwhile Warangal district. In August 2021, the Warangal Rural district was renamed back to Warangal district. Hanamkonda District
Hanamkonda district (formerly Warangal Urban district) is a district in the Indian state of Telangana. The district headquarters are located at Hanamakonda. The district borders the districts of Jangaon district, Jangaon, Karimnagar district, Karimnagar, Warangal Rural district, Warangal, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district, Bhupalpally and Siddipet district, Siddipet. Sangareddy District
Sangareddy district is a district located in the western region of the Indian state of Telangana. This district contains a part of the Hyderabad Metropolitan Region.
