Mount Chilalo
Mount Chilalo is an isolated, extinct silicic stratovolcano in southeastern Ethiopia. Its highest point (4036 m or 13,241 ft a.s.l.), in the Arsi Zone of the Oromia Region, is located in Arsi Mountains National Park on the border between the Hitosa and Tiyo woreda (). The mountain has an elliptical base (about 30 by 20 kilometers), whose major axis lies NNE-SSW or parallel to the predominant tectonic trend. Chilalo rises with gentle slopes for more than 1500 meters from the top of the plateau. At the summit, there is a large, almost circular caldera about 6 kilometers in diameter, whose southern rim is considered to be the mountain's summit. Mount Chilalo last erupted in the Pleistocene. One authority identifies Mount Chilalo as a late Trap Series volcano. Mousa Ali
Mousa Ali (, , ) is a stratovolcano located on the tri-point of Ethiopia, Eritrea and Djibouti. The volcano is the highest point in Djibouti. The volcano's summit is truncated by a caldera, which contains rhyolitic lava domes and lava flows. The last known eruption occurred before the Holocene epoch. Mousa Ali is situated at the tri-point of the Tadjourah Region of Djibouti, the Southern Red Sea Region of Eritrea, and the Afar Region of Ethiopia. The Entoto Mountains or Entoto Hills (Amharic: ) is a mountainous region in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. It lies immediately north of Addis Ababa, in the Ethiopian Highlands and central region of Ethiopia. A prominent peak at the top of the Entoto Mountains is Mount Entoto. It served as Menelik II's capital before the founding of Addis Ababa. Mount Entoto
Mount Entoto () is the highest peak on the Entoto Mountains, which overlooks the city of Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia. It reaches 3,200 meters above sea level. Overview It is a historical place where Emperor Menelik II resided and built his palace, when he came from Ankober and founded Addis Ababa. It is considered a sacred mountain and has many monasteries. Mount Entoto is also the location of a number of celebrated churches, including Saint Raguel and Saint Mary. The mountain is densely covered by eucalyptus trees that were imported from Australia during the reign of Menelik II, and mostly planted during Emperor Haile Selassie's reign. Thus, it is sometimes referred to as the "lung of Addis Ababa". The forest on the mountain is an important source of firewood for the city. It was also a source of building material in earlier times. Mount Fentale
Fentale is a stratovolcano located in Awash National Park which was found in the Afar Region, Ethiopia. It is the highest point of Fentale woreda. History Philip Briggs describes Mount Fentale as being crowned by a crater. Briggs concludes that this volcano "is responsible for the bleak hundred-year-old lava flows that cross the road immediately west of Metehara, and its steam vents can sometimes be seen displaying from the surrounding plains at night." The date of these eruptions is fixed by the investigations of the early 19th-century explorer William Cornwallis Harris, whom David Buxton states first encountered this volcano and its lava beds in 1842. By questioning the natives, Harris concluded that the most recent eruptions had taken place 30 years before his arrival. Mount Zuqualla
Mount Zuqualla (also spelled Zuquala, Zikwala or Chuqqaala) is an extinct volcano in the Oromia Region of Ethiopia. Situated in Ada'a Chukala woreda of the East Shewa Zone, it rises from the plain south of Bishoftu. With a height of , it is known for its crater lake, lake Dembel, an elliptical crater lake with a maximum diameter of about one kilometre, but the trail around the crater is about 6 km long. History During the Paleolithic era, the Melka Kunture fossil site was covered by volcanic deposits as a result of the eruption of Mount Zuqualla. In the middles ages, this region was part of the Ifat Sultanate and had a considerable Muslim population until the region was conquered by Amda Seyon I.
