Morphoses is a ballet company, co-founded in 2007 by Christopher Wheeldon and Lourdes Lopez. Morphoses is a guest resident company at the New York City Center and at Sadler's Wells Theatre in London. It was known as Morphoses/The Wheeldon Company until February 2010, when Wheeldon announced that he was leaving the company. Ballet Company
A ballet company is a type of dance troupe that performs classical ballet, neoclassical ballet, and/or contemporary ballet in the European tradition, plus managerial and support staff. Most major ballet companies employ dancers on a year-round basis, except in the United States, where contracts for part of the year (typically thirty or forty weeks) are normally offered. A company generally has a home theatre where it stages the majority of its performances, but many companies also tour in their home country or internationally. Ballet companies routinely make a loss at the box office and depend on external financial support of one kind or another. In Europe, most of this support comes in the form of government subsidies, though private donations are usually solicited as well. Leanne Benjamin
Leanne Faye Benjamin (born 13 July 1964) is a retired Australian ballet dancer who was a principal dancer with the Royal Ballet in London. She was appointed artistic director at the Queensland Ballet in 2024. She stepped down from the position on 2 August 2024. Early life and training Benjamin was born in Rockhampton, Queensland, to Jill and Bernie Benjamin. Benjamin began ballet lessons at age three at a local dance school, and had attended The Range Convent and High School. In 1980, she was accepted into the Royal Ballet School at age 16. Within a year, she won two prestigious awards, the Adeline Genée Gold Medal and Prix de Lausanne, and trained at the Royal Ballet for two years. One of her teachers was Mona Vangsaae. At her graduation performance, she and Jonathan Cope performed the two lead roles in ''Giselle''. Isabel Toledo (born Maria Isabel Izquierdo; April 9, 1960 – August 26, 2019) was a Cuban-American fashion designer based in New York City. She was widely recognized in the fashion industry for her attention to craftsmanship and the "sophisticated simplicity" of her garments. Pulcinella Suite
''Pulcinella'' is a 21-section ballet by Igor Stravinsky with arias for soprano, tenor and bass vocal soloists, and two sung trios. It is based on the 18th-century play ''Quatre Polichinelles semblables'', or ''Four similar Pulcinellas'', revolving around a stock character from ''commedia dell'arte''. The work premiered at the Paris Opera on 15 May 1920 under the baton of Ernest Ansermet. The central dancer, Léonide Massine, created both the libretto and the choreography, while Pablo Picasso designed the costumes and sets. Deborah Jowitt (born 1934) is an American dance critic, author, and choreographer. Her career in dance began as a performer and choreographer. Jowitt has received several awards for her work, including a Bessie (New York Dance and Performance Award) for her work in dance criticism. Early life Jowitt was born in 1934, hailing from California. Career Beginning in 1967, she wrote a weekly dance column for ''The Village Voice'', providing frequent reviews of dance performances in New York City. Edward Watson (dancer)
Edward Watson MBE (born 21 May 1976) is a British ballet dancer. He is a retired principal dancer and currently a coach with the Royal Ballet in London. Early years Edward Watson was born in Bromley, Kent and was brought up in Dartford with his twin sister, Liz. He first attended dance classes at the age of 3, and was later accepted as a student at the Royal Ballet School, eventually joining the full-time school at White Lodge, Richmond Park. Whilst at the school, he trained with Anatoly Grigoriev, a former dancer of the Kirov Ballet and was one of six male students who graduated into the Upper School at the age of 16. At the Upper School his teachers included German Zammel and Julie Lincoln. Rubinald Pronk
Rubinald Rofino Pronk (born 17 July ), born and raised in The Hague, Netherlands, is a ''danseur'' performing with the List of Morphoses productions, Morphoses/Christopher Wheeldon, The Wheeldon Company. He trained at the Royal (Dutch) Conservatory of Dance and joined the Dutch National Ballet at the age 16 and was promoted to soloist. Rubinald performed works by choreographers including Frederick Ashton, Sir Frederick Ashton, George Balanchine, William Forsythe (dancer), William Forsythe, Jacopo Godani, Martha Graham and Krzysztof Pastor. In 2006 he joined Dwight Rhoden and Desmond Richardson's Complexions Contemporary Ballet, performing works by Rhoden and Ulysses Dove.
