The Morocco Open or Rabat Grand Prix (for sponsorship reasons called the Grand Prix de SAR La Princesse Lalla Meryem), is a women's professional tennis tournament currently held in Rabat, Morocco. This WTA Tour event is classified as an International tournament and is played on outdoor clay courts. TÃmea Babos is the doubles record holder with three wins. Patricia Wartusch, Émilie Loit, Iveta BeneÅ¡ová, Maya Joint won both singles and doubles titles the same year. History The event started in July 2001 in Casablanca, Morocco. It stayed in that city until 2005, when it was moved to Rabat the first time. In 2007, the tournament changed location again, this time to Fez. In 2013 it was relocated to Marrakesh, before returning to Rabat in 2016. The tournament is named after Princess Lalla Meryem, the sister of Mohammed VI, King of Morocco. WTA International Tournaments
The WTA International tournaments was a category for tennis tournaments of the Women's Tennis Association from the 2009 WTA Tour until 2020, which replaced the previous Tier III and Tier IV categories. As of 2021 these events have been reclassified as WTA 250 tournaments. The winner of a WTA 250 tournament adds 250 points to her WTA ranking. Rita Grande
Rita Grande (born 23 March 1975) is a former tennis player from Italy. During her career, Grande won three singles titles and five doubles titles on the WTA Tour. She also won one singles title and three doubles titles on the ITF Women's Circuit. On 5 November 2001, she reached her best singles ranking of world No. 24. On 28 May 2001, she peaked at No. 26 in the doubles rankings. She played the round of 16 in singles at least once in each of the Grand Slam championships, including twice consecutively at the Australian Open, in 2001 and 2002. Following a bad elbow injury that kept her away from competition for about ten months, Rita Grande retired from professional sport in October 2005. Klára Koukalová (formerly Zakopalová; born 24 February 1982) is a Czech former tennis player. She was born and still lives in Prague. In her career, Camerin won three doubles titles on the WTA Tour, as well as ten singles and nine doubles titles on the ITF Circuit. Princess Lalla (title), Lalla Meryem (, born 26 August 1962) is the first daughter and eldest child of the late King Hassan II of Morocco and his wife, Princess Lalla Latifa.
