Monica (Monica's Gang)
Monica de Sousa ( Portuguese: ''Mônica'') is a Brazilian fictional character and Mauricio de Sousa's best-known creation. Introduced in 1960, she serves as the main protagonist and title character of the ''Monica and Friends'' (''Turma da Mônica'') comic book series and media franchise. Mauricio based the character on his second daughter, also named Monica, with whom the fictional character shares some physical characteristics. In her first appearances, she was a supporting character to Jimmy Five, but was gradually made the main character. An eponymous comic book series began publication from 1970. Concept and creation Monica was based on Mauricio de Sousa's daughter in childhood. The reason for her creation was due to a complaint of the lack of female characters in Mauricio comics. At that time, newspaper strips of Blu (comic strip character), Blu and Jimmy Five were produced. When Monica made her first appearance was in a strip of Jimmy Five in 1963, at first as a second ...

The Tribe (Monica And Friends)
''The Tribe'' ("Papa Capim") is a Brazilian comic strip, part of the ''Monica's Gang'' series. It centers around a tribe of indigenous people from the Amazon (although it is never specified which). Their tribe was once named "Tribo do Rio" ''(River's Tribe)''. Although the only characters are Tom-Tom (the main character), Tamoyo, Papaya and the Pajé, their stories feature a large range of themes, going from environmental concerns to the shock between indigenous and non-indigenous cultures. People from outside the jungle are called "Caras-pálidas" (''White-faced'' or ''paleface'', due to their white skin, in contrast to the usual dark skin of indigenous peoples from the Amazon) or simply "Caraíbas". When one of the Caraíbas approaches Tom-Tom's tribe, the encounter can be either friendly or unfriendly, the latter always happening when the Caraíba attempts to hunt, deforest, burn, or in any other way harm the environment. Tupã, the God of the Guarani people, and Jaci, the Mo ...

Horacio's World
''Horacio's World'' is a Brazilian comic strip, part of the Monica and Friends comic strips. The main character is Horácio, a baby Tyrannosaurus rex, created in 1961. He debuted as one of the supporting characters of Pitheco's comics in The Cavern Clan, but their solo stories started in 1963. Other minor characters appear occasionally, but Horacio's strips mostly consist of monologues and self-reflections (some of them are even entirely pantomimic), thus making him Mauricios's alter-ego. Also, all his stories are written by Mauricio himself. Some comics have also been published in Japan before between 1975 and 1982, but recently have been published again by the Sanrio's magazine ''Ichigo Shinbun''. Characters ''Horácio'' – Of this group of characters, Horácio (or Horacio in English) is the main one. The Funnies (Monica And Friends)
''The Funnies'' ("O Astronauta"), also known as ''Bubbly the Astronaut'', is a Brazilian comic strip series, created in 1963 and part of the Monica's Gang comic strips. It centers around Bubbly, an astronaut, whose parents and ex-girlfriend Rita appear very rarely, making him the only recurring character. The comic strip can be defined as a science fiction adventure strip. In order to draw the outer space scenarios that normally serve as background for the strips, inkers for ''The Funnies'' normally use fountain and dip pens, with white, gray and black as colors. Sérgio Graciano (1936–2019), one of the inkers, says he reads scientific publications so his work is as loyal to real space as possible. Characters * ''Bubbly'' ''(Astronauta)'' – Bubbly is the main and virtually only character of The Funnies. The Cavern Clan
''The Cavern Clan'' (''Piteco'') is a Brazilian comic strip created in 1961 by Mauricio de Sousa. It is part of the ''Monica's Gang'' series. It centers around a prehistoric tribe in the Stone Age and depicts them living in the presence of dinosaurs. Most of the stories feature Pitheco hunting dinosaurs, running away from Tooga, or even his friends and he fighting against other village's people. The characters were anachronistically aware; for example, if a character needed to walk a long distance, he or she would say, “Too bad they didn’t invent the car yet, ’cause otherwise I could go faster”. Mauricio de Sousa was inspired by the American comic strips Tarzan (by Burne Hogarth) and ''Alley Oop'' strips and named Pitheco's village Lem (which in ''Alley Oop'' refer to Lemuria). Characters * ''Pitheco'' (''Piteco'') – his whole name is '' Pithecanthropus erectus'' da Silva and he lives at the fictional Lem Village. He is mostly portrayed as a hunter who goes after di ...

Bug-a-Booo

All of the characters are monsters or other supernatural creatures, none of them being a human being. The main location for their stories is a cemetery. However, their stories are not intended to be scary, they are sometimes classified as “Terrir”, which is a Portmanteau of the Portuguese words "Terror" ''( horror)'' and "Rir" ''(to laugh)''. In some of the stories, they have to deal with the fact that vampires, ghosts, zombies and mummies are no longer appreciated as characters of horror films. People instead are opting for assassins, psychopaths, serial killers, etc. Characters * ''Bug-a-Booo'' (''Penadinho'') – Bug-a-Booo is the main character, a short ghost. Tina's Pals
''Tina's Pals'' (Turma da Tina) is a Brazilian comic strip series, part of the Monica's Gang series, created in 1970. The stories are aimed at a more teenage group of readers, rather than the kids who would read other Mauricio de Sousa's works and thus center around teenagers and young adults. However, Mauricio prefers not to mention drugs, topics about sexuality, or other similar subjects, which are very popular among teenagers. Instead, the strips are written with themes related to school or university, dating, problems with parents, etc. Originally the stories recounted the life of Tina and her family living in Salvador, Flip (Toneco) was the original protagonist. The stories changed when Tina joined the hippie culture and started to act alongside Curly (Rolo). In the late of 1970s, Mauricio left the hippie style and started to work with a less particular way of life for them, making the characters become more modern and changing their personalities over the years. Publication ...
