Modular Recordings
Modular Recordings (known simply as Modular) was an Australian record label founded in 1998 by Steve Pavlovic that by 2015 was owned by Universal Music Australia. It has released music from local artists such as Eskimo Joe, Ben Lee, The Avalanches, Wolfmother, Cut Copy, The Bumblebeez, Bag Raiders, Van She, Rocket Science, Ghostwood, The Presets, Pond, and Tame Impala, and local releases of international artists including Dom, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Chromeo, Colder, Klaxons, Ladyhawke, NYPC, MSTRKRFT, and Softlightes. After its establishment, the label was first recognised by the successful releases of The Living End's eponymous debut album and Ben Lee's '' Breathing Tornados'', with the former becoming the highest-selling rock debut, and the latter being nominated for the ARIA Award for Album of the Year. Cut Copy (sometimes stylised as Cut/Copy) are an Australian synth-pop band formed in 2001 by Dan Whitford (vocals, keyboards and guitar). Originally a home-recording project, the band now includes Tim Hoey (guitars), Ben Browning (bass guitar), and Mitchell Scott (drums). The band achieved breakthrough success in 2008 with their second album, ''In Ghost Colours'', which included well-known singles "Lights & Music" and "Hearts on Fire (Cut Copy song), Hearts on Fire". Klaxons
Klaxons were an English Rock music, rock band, based in London. Following the release of several Gramophone record, 7-inch singles on different independent record labels, as well as the success of previous singles "Magick (Klaxons song), Magick" and "Golden Skans", the band released their debut album, ''Myths of the Near Future (album), Myths of the Near Future'' on 29 January 2007. The album won the 2007 Mercury Prize, Nationwide Mercury Prize. Colder (musician)
Marc Nguyen Tan (born 1974), known professionally as Colder, is a French dance musician and graphic designer who is also a DJ and remixer who remains actively involved in dance music and other projects. Colder's sound is rooted in the post-punk and post-disco of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Colder is also influenced by dub and krautrock. Biography After studying film at university, Tan started to work as junior art director in 1995 for Grolier Interactive, then became art director at the Shaman design studio. He worked as art director for TV on-air design, then directed promos and title sequences as a freelancer for Eurosport cable channel. He co-founded "Le Cabinet. Paris." with Benoit Emery in May 2000. Chromeo
Chromeo is a Canadian electro-funk duo from Montreal, formed in 2002 by musicians David "Dave 1" Macklovitch and Patrick "P-Thugg" Gemayel. Their sound draws from soul music, dance music, rock, synth-pop, disco and funk. As of 2024, the band has released six studio albums, with three of them hitting the ''Billboard'' 200 charts. In 2018, Chromeo received their first Grammy Award nomination for Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical for their album '' Head over Heels''. Yeah Yeah Yeahs are an American indie rock band formed in New York City in 2000. The group is composed of vocalist and pianist Karen O (born Karen Lee Orzolek), guitarist and keyboardist Nick Zinner, and drummer Brian Chase. They are complemented in live performances by second guitarist David Pajo (formerly of Slint and Tortoise), who joined as a touring member in 2009 and replaced Imaad Wasif, who had previously held the role. DoM is an American pop / electronic solo musical project by Dominic Cournoyer originating from Worcester, Massachusetts. With warped vocals, fuzzy lo-fi distortion, and broken Casio keyboard lines, Dom filters a DIY aesthetic through the upbeat, sunny rhythms of pop music. Career DoM's debut, '' Sun Bronzed Greek Gods'' ( EP), was released in March 2010, and received critical acclaim. Tame Impala
Tame Impala is the psychedelic music project of Australian singer and multi-instrumentalist Kevin Parker (musician), Kevin Parker. In the recording studio, Parker writes, records, performs, and produces all of the project's music. As a touring act, Tame Impala consists of Parker (vocals, guitar, synthesiser), Dominic Simper (guitar, synthesiser), Jay Watson (synthesiser, vocals, guitar), Cam Avery (bass guitar, vocals, synthesiser), and Julien Barbagallo (drums, vocals). Pond (Australian Band)
Pond is an Australian psychedelic rock band from Perth, Western Australia, formed in 2008. Initially featuring a revolving line-up, since 2016 the band has consisted of Nick Allbrook, Jay Watson, Shiny Joe Ryan, Jamie Terry, and James Ireland. Pond is often heavily associated with fellow Perth-based psychedelic rock/pop band Tame Impala, as members of both groups are longtime close friends and collaborators. Watson is currently a full-time member of both acts and also releases solo albums under the name GUM. Lead singer Allbrook contributed to both bands from 2009 to 2013 before leaving Tame Impala to focus on Pond and his own solo career. The Presets
The Presets are an Australian electronic music duo of Julian Hamilton (vocals, keyboards) and Kim Moyes (drums, keyboards). Ghostwood (band)
Ghostwood were an Australian alternative- indie band formed in 2006. The original line-up, known as the Ghosts, was Tom Crandles on bass guitar, Patrick Harrowsmith on lead guitar, James West on drums and Gabriel Winterield on lead vocals and rhythm guitar. They changed their name and were signed to Modular Recordings, which issued their self-titled extended play in August 2007. The group toured Australia in that year and then travelled to the United Kingdom during 2008 and 2009. They split up in 2011 with Winterfield joining Jagwar Ma.
