Minangkabau People
Minangkabau people (; ; ) are an Austronesian people, Austronesian ethnic group native to the Minangkabau Highlands of West Sumatra, Western Sumatra region on the Indonesian island of Sumatra. The Minangkabau's West Sumatera homelands was the seat of the Pagaruyung Kingdom, believed by early historians to have been the cradle of the Malay race, and the location of the Padri War (1821 to 1837). Minangkabau are the ethnic majority in West Sumatra and Negeri Sembilan. Minangkabau are also a recognised minority in other parts of Indonesia as well as Malaysia, Singapore, and the Netherlands. Minangkabau International Airport Railway Station
Minangkabau International Airport Station (BIM) is a class I airport rail link, airport list of railway stations in Indonesia, railway station located on Minangkabau International Airport, airport complex in Katapiang, Batang Anai, Padang Pariaman Regency. The position of this station is to the northeast of the airport's passenger terminal. The station, which is located at an altitude of +2 meters, is included in the Regional Division II West Sumatra. This station was completed in 2016–2017 and only started operating with the inauguration of the Minangkabau Airport Rail Link by President of Indonesia Joko Widodo on 21 May 2018. Padri War
The Padri Wars (also called the Minangkabau War) was fought from 1803 until 1837 in West Sumatra, Indonesia between the Padri and the Adat. The Padri were Islam, Muslim clerics from Sumatra who wanted to impose Sharia in Minangkabau Highlands, Minangkabau in West Sumatra, Indonesia. The Adat comprised the Minangkabau nobility and traditional chiefs. They asked for the help of the Royal Netherlands East Indies Army, Dutch, who intervened in 1821 and helped the nobility defeat the Padri faction. Minangkabau Express () is an airport rail link service in West Sumatra, Indonesia. This line was built to cut travel time from Padang city centre to the Minangkabau International Airport in Padang Pariaman Regency, as roads connecting the airport and the city center are frequently affected by traffic congestion. The Minangkabau Express is the third airport rail link in Indonesia after Kualanamu ARS and Soekarno–Hatta ARS. It was inaugurated by President Joko Widodo on 21 May 2018. Background The link was established using existing and new rail tracks. An existing line between Duku railway station and Padang was upgraded. Minangkabau International Airport is an airport serving the province of West Sumatra on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia. It is located at Ketaping, Padang Pariaman Regency which is about 23 km north-west of Padang, Indonesia, Padang city center. The airport commenced operations in July 2005 and took over the role previously held by Sutan Sjahrir Air Force Base, Tabing Airport in Padang, which now serves exclusively as a military airbase for the Indonesian Air Force. The former airport could not be expanded due to limited land availability and had become increasingly congested as passenger numbers grew, leading to the decision to construct a new facility. Minangkabau (legend)
The Minangkabau legend told the story of the origin of the name "Minangkabau". It is thought to be a conjunction of two words, ''minang'' ("victorious") and ''kabau'' ("buffalo"). The legend told the story of a territorial dispute between the local West Sumatran people and a neighbouring invading prince. The invading prince and his troops were somehow traditionally associated with Javanese Singhasari kingdom, during their attempt to subdue Sumatra during the Pamalayu expedition (1275). To avoid a battle, the local leader proposed a fight to the death between two water buffaloes to settle the dispute. The prince agreed and set forward his largest, meanest, most aggressive buffalo. The locals set forth a hungry baby buffalo with its small horns ground to be as sharp as knives. Seeing the adult buffalo across the field, the baby ran forward, hoping for milk. Minangkabau Culture Documentation and Information Center (, or PDIKM) is a museum and research center for Minangkabau culture, located in the city of Padang Panjang, West Sumatra, Indonesia. The center building is in the form of a Minangkabau traditional house (''rumah gadang''), with a large garden that slopes up to the main gate. The Minangkabau Highlands (, Minangkabau language, Minang: ''Minang Darek'') is a mountainous area in the province of West Sumatra, located around three mountains—Mount Marapi, Mount Singgalang, and Mount Sago—in west-central Sumatra, Indonesia. The highlands are part of the Barisan Mountains, the largest mountain range in Sumatra. They are home to the Minangkabau people who refer to the area as ''Alam Minangkabau'', or "the world of Minangkabau". This area formed a kingdom known from at least the 7th century as Malayu (kingdom), Malayu.
