Mesosemiini
The Mesosemiini are one of the tribes of metalmark butterflies (family Riodinidae). They are the basalmost living tribe of the Riodininae, outside the main radiation together with the slightly more advanced Eurybiini. Genera As numerous Riodinidae genera have not yet been unequivocally assigned to a tribe, the genus list is preliminary. In each subtribe, the genera are arranged in phylogenetic sequence, from the most plesiomorphic to the most apomorphic. Eurybiini
The Eurybiini are a small tribe of metalmark butterflies (family Riodinidae). They are one of the basal tribes of the Riodininae, outside the main radiation but not quite as primitive as the Mesosemiini. Though numerous Riodinidae genera have not yet been unequivocally placed in a tribe and the genus list is thus preliminary, it is not very likely that many other genera will end up being assigned here.Brower (2007); see also references in Savela (2008) Genera * '' Alesa'' Doubleday, 1847 * '' Eurybia'' lliger 1807 Footnotes References * (2007): Tree of Life Web Project The Tree of Life Web Project (ToL) is an Internet project providing information about the diversity and phylogeny of life on Earth. Henry Walter Bates
Henry Walter Bates (8 February 1825 – 16 February 1892) was an English natural history, naturalist and explorer who gave the first scientific account of mimicry in animals. He was most famous for his expedition to the Tropical rainforest, rainforests of the Amazon basin, Amazon with Alfred Russel Wallace, starting in 1848. Wallace returned in 1852, but lost his collection on the return voyage when his ship caught fire. When Bates arrived home in 1859 after a full eleven years, he had sent back over 14,712 species (mostly of insects) of which 8,000 were (according to Bates, but see Van Wyhe) new to science. Bates wrote up his findings in his best-known work, ''The Naturalist on the River Amazons'' (1863). Life Bates was born in Leicester to a literate middle-class family. However, like Wallace, Thomas Henry Huxley and Herbert Spencer, he had a normal education to the age of about 13 when he became apprenticed to a hosiery manufacturer. He joined the Mechanics' Institute (w ...

Mesosemia Coea
''Mesosemia'' is a genus in the butterfly family Riodinidae present only in the Neotropical realm. This genus rather closely approximates the genus '' Eurybia'', though it is by no means so uniform. Also here there is in most of the species almost exactly above the middle of the forewing a large eyespot which often exhibits two or three white pupils, and where it is absent, one mostly finds yet its traces in the shape of a small central shade or minute cloud. The ''Mesosemia'' differ from the ''Eurybia'' by their smaller heads, the shorter antennae, the borders of the forewings being generally slightly curved, the short abdomen mostly not reaching as far as the anal angle, the longer hindwings being often geniculate (knee like) in the middle of the distal margin, or angularly protended (held out). The row of distal marginal spots of the hindwing is always absent, the hindwings, however, show in the disk more or less parallel transverse stripes. The sexual dimorphism, which is not ...
