McMenamins
McMenamins is an American chain of Pub, pubs, restaurants, hotels, breweries, and other entertainment venues in Oregon and Washington (state), Washington. McMenamins is notable for rehabilitating historic properties for many of their establishments, and several are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. In addition to Pub, pubs, restaurants, hotels, and breweries, McMenamins also operates movie theaters, music venues, spas, and golf courses, including the Gearhart Golf Links, the oldest golf course west of the Mississippi River. McMenamins is credited by some for helping with the popularization of tater tots as bar food, which were invented in Oregon and are offered at every McMenamin's location in either regular or 'Cajun' style. Crystal Ballroom (Portland, Oregon)
Crystal Ballroom, originally built as Cotillion Hall, is a historic building on Burnside Street in Portland, Oregon, United States. Cotillion Hall was built in 1914 as a ballroom, and dance revivals were held there through the Great Depression. Starting in the 1960s, the hall has also been host to many popular pop, rock, folk, blues and jazz artists, as well as beat poetry and other entertainment. History What is now known as the Crystal Ballroom was constructed in 1913–1914 and opened in early 1914, as Ringler's Cotillion Hall. Originally owned by Montrose Ringler, the ballroom fell victim to heavy persecution of jazz and dance and Ringler lost the ballroom in the early 1920s. The ballroom was bought by Dad Watson in the mid-1920s, and largely held square dances during that period. Multnomah County Poor Farm
The Multnomah County Poor Farm is a former poor farm located in Troutdale, Oregon, United States. Established in 1911, the building and its surrounding grounds operated as a poor farm housing the ill and indigent populations in the Portland metropolitan area at the beginning of the twentieth century, after the closure of a poor farm in the city's West Hills. Over the course of the century, the farm would come to be used as a nursing home before becoming abandoned in the 1980s. Since 1990, the site is operated as an entertainment and lodging complex under the name McMenamins Edgefield, one of several historic properties owned, restored, and operated by the McMenamins enterprise. Brian McMenamin
Brian McMenamin (born 1957) is an American businessman in the state of Oregon. A native of the state, he and his older brother Mike McMenamin founded the McMenamins restaurant and brewpub chain in 1983. He serves as general manager and vice-president of the company which operates more than 50 locations that include music venues such as the Crystal Ballroom, movie theaters such as the Bagdad Theatre, historic buildings converted to brewpubs like the Cornelius Pass Roadhouse, and several hotels. Early life Brian McMenamin was born in Portland, Oregon, in 1957 to Robert W. and Pat McMenamin. He was raised in Northeast Portland where he attended Catholic schools, including local Madeleine Grade School and Jesuit High School in nearby Beaverton. The Bagdad Theatre is a movie theater in the Hawthorne District of Portland, Oregon, United States. It originally opened in 1927 and was the site of the gala premiere of '' One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest'' in 1975, and of '' My Own Private Idaho'' in 1991. The Mission Theater and Pub is a movie theater and pub located in the northwest Portland, Oregon. Formerly a Swedish church and union hall, the theater was re-opened as a McMenamins establishment in 1987. The theater was known for featuring second-run films, until 2019 when a first-run operation was implemented, and for serving beer, wine, and food. Kennedy School
The Kennedy School, originally the John D. Kennedy Elementary School, is a former elementary school that has been converted to a hotel, movie theater and dining establishment in northeast Portland, Oregon. The facility is operated by the McMenamins chain. The hotel has 35 guestrooms, a brewery, four bars, and a restaurant. History The school was built in 1915. The land for the school was sold by John Daniel Kennedy to the Portland School District in 1913.. Currently By the 1990s, the school had been abandoned. The Hillsdale district is a neighborhood in the southwest section of Portland, Oregon, United States. It is centered on the Hillsdale retail and business area, a series of strip malls on SW Capitol Highway between SW Sunset Boulevard and SW Bertha Boulevard. It is home to the Hillsdale Farmer's Market, which takes place on Sundays during the summer and every other Sunday during the winter.
