The Mayor of Bengaluru is the first citizen of the Indian city of Bengaluru. The Mayor is the Chief of Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike. The role of Mayor is largely ceremonial. The Mayor also plays a functional role in deliberating over the discussions in the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, Corporation. The term of the Mayor is set for 5 years as per the ''Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike Act of 2020'', during the erstwhile act of ''Karnataka Municipal Corporations Act of 1976'' the term was fixed for 1 year. Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike
Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) was the administrative body responsible for civic amenities and some infrastructural assets of the Greater Bangalore, Greater Bengaluru metropolitan area. It was the fourth List of municipal corporations in India, largest Municipal Corporation in India and was responsible for a population of 8.4 million in an area of 741 km2. Its boundaries expanded more than 10 times since the 1950s. It was replaced by the Greater Bengaluru Authority on 15 May 2025, however the BBMP will continue to administer the city until the new Authority is fully operational. Prema Cariappa
Iychettira Prema Cariappa is an Indian political and social worker. A politician from Indian National Congress party, she was a former Mayor of Bangalore and a former MP (member of the Parliament of India), as she was representing Karnataka in the Rajya Sabha, the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Mumtaz Begum (born 1956) is a former mayor of Bangalore, India. She was Bangalore's *first Muslim mayor, *fourth woman mayor, *43rd mayor and was elected on 30 November 2005.
