Marist School is a private Catholic school located in Brookhaven, Georgia, United States, north of the city of Atlanta, Georgia, Atlanta. Founded in 1901, it is operated independently of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Atlanta, Archdiocese of Atlanta. History Marist School was originally founded by the Society of Mary (Marists) in 1901, opening its doors on October 2 of that year. The school originated as the boys' military school Marist College High School, and was located in a three-story schoolhouse on Ivy Street, now called Peachtree Center Avenue, in downtown Atlanta. In the 1940s, while it was a military school, the boys wore a blue military uniform with a soft cap, and performed a marching drill routine on the field, which was next to the school and in front of the Sacred Heart Catholic School. Marist High School is a private Catholic preparatory high school located in the Mount Greenwood neighborhood of Chicago, Illinois, operated by the Marist Brothers on behalf of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Founded in 1963 as an all-male institution, the school became co-ed in 2002 and today educates over 1,700 young students each year. History In the early 1960s, the Christian Brothers of Ireland were asked by Cardinal Albert Gregory Meyer to operate an all-male high school on the far southwest side of Chicago, on land surrounded by St. Casimir Lithuanian Cemetery at the corner of 115th Street and Pulaski Road. With three area schools already under their purview ( Leo Catholic High School, Brother Rice High School, and St. Laurence High School) the Christian Brothers declined, and shortly thereafter the Marist Brothers were asked to operate the school instead. The Marist Brothers of the Schools, commonly known as simply the Marist Brothers, is an international community of Catholic religious institute of brothers. In 1817, Marcellin Champagnat, a Marist priest from France, founded the Marist Brothers with the goal of educating young people, especially those most neglected. The Marist School is an independent Catholic day school for girls aged 2–18 with a co-ed Nursery in Sunninghill near Ascot, Berkshire, England. The Marist School is a Catholic school but welcomes all Christians and other faiths who are in sympathy with the schools' ethos. Once girls reach 11 they often join Senior and Sixth Form until age 18 years. In Preparatory, there are two phases: Early Years and Preparatory.
