Description This genus is characterized by a reticulated Sculpture (mollusc), sculpture, a large, inflated body whorl, a short siphonal canal and the lack of a sinus. Fossils of ''Lusitanops gigasei'' were found in Pliocene strata at Kallo, Belgium; age range: 6 to 2.588 Ma. Species Species within the genus ''Lusitanops'' include: * ''Lusitanops blanchardi'' (Dautzenberg & Fischer, 1896) * ''Lusitanops bullioides'' (Sykes, 1906) * ''Lusitanops cingulatus'' Bouchet & Warén, 1980 * ''Lusitanops dictyota'' Sysoev, 1997 * ''Lusitanops expansus'' (Sars G.O., 1878) * † ''Lusitanops gigasei'' Marquet 1998 * ''Lusitanops hyaloides'' (Dautzenberg, 1925) * ''Lusitanops lusitanicus'' (Sykes, 1906) * ''Lusitanops macrapex'' Bouchet & Warén, 1980 * ''Lusitanops sigmoideus'' Bouchet & Warén, 1980 ;Species brought into synonymy: * † ''Lusitanops bulbiformis'' Lozouet, 1999 ...

Lusitanops Gigasei
''Lusitanops gigasei'' is an extinct species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Its specific name derives from the paleontologist Paul Gigase, the collector of the fossil specimen designated as the holotype. Description The shape and size of ''Lusitanops gigasei'' suggests it was a mobile and active predator, capable of hunting and capturing other small marine invertebrates. The pointed spire of the shell may have helped it to penetrate sand and sediment to access prey buried in the seafloor. The shell's prominent apex may have been an adaptation providing extra strength and structural support. Its shell was thick and sturdy, suggesting that it may have been adapted to living in environments with strong water currents and turbulence. It could reach a length of 6.1 mm, and a diameter of 1.9 mm. ''L. gigasei'' may be a species intermediate between ''Lusitanops'' and ''Xanthodaphne'', as it had a combination of characteristics of these ...

Lusitanops Bullioides
''Lusitanops bullioides'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 4 mm, its diameter 2.8 mm. (Original description) The shell has an ovate fusiform shape with the spire rather depressed. Its colour is white, with a chestnut-brown protoconch. The shell contains six somewhat convex whorls with a suture well-marked. The protoconch is composed of four whorls, the first minutely punctate, the second and third being decussated by arcuate riblets, while the fourth whorl has this decussation on its lower half, but one series of riblets has become obsolete on the upper half. The residue of the shell is, in some specimens, marked by three or four incised lines, the only other sculpture being the lines of growth, which are sinuous and more noticeable just below the suture. The body whorl is large and inflated. The aperture is ovate. The columella is slightly curved. The outer lip is thin and arcuate, wit ...

Lusitanops Blanchardi
''Lusitanops blanchardi'' is a species of sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusk in the family Raphitomidae. Description The length of the shell attains 6.7 mm, its diameter 3.7 mm. Thin shell has an ovoid shape. The spire is of mediocre length, occupying hardly more than a third of the total height. The shell is composed of 6 convex whorls, separated by a well-marked suture. The three whorls of the protoconch are finely reticulated. The subsequent whorls are crossed by many regular decurrent cords, flattened, about the same width as their intervals and by filiform longitudinal folds irregularly spaced. The body whorl is large and inflated, occupying 4/5 of the total height. The aperture is wide and, elongatedly oval. The columella undulates slightly, attenuated at the base and shows a narrow callus, thin, applied, barely visible. The outer lip is simple, sharp, arcuate, not indented and provided only at the apex with a very wide and shallow sinus. The color of the shell is opaqu ...
