The Los Angeles Angels are an American professional baseball team based in the Greater Los Angeles, Greater Los Angeles area. The Angels compete in Major League Baseball (MLB) as a member club of the American League (AL) American League West, West Division. Since 1966, the team has played its home games at Angel Stadium in Anaheim, California. The franchise was founded in Los Angeles in 1961 by Gene Autry as one of 1961 Major League Baseball expansion, MLB's first two expansion teams and the first to originate in California. Deriving its name from an earlier Los Angeles Angels (PCL), Los Angeles Angels franchise that played in the Pacific Coast League (PCL), the team was based in Los Angeles until moving to Anaheim in 1966. The 2005 Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim season was the franchise's 45th since its inception. The regular season ended with a record of 95–67, resulting in the Angels winning the American League West title for the second consecutive season, their fifth in franchise history.
