Llanengan
Llanengan is a small village and community (Wales), community around Abersoch in Gwynedd in north-west Wales. It had a population of 2,024 at the 2001 census, which had been reduced to 1,989 at the 2011 Census. The popular seaside resort village of Abersoch falls within the community, as do the villages of Llangian, Mynytho, St Tudwal's Islands, Machroes and Llanengan. The local public house is called the Sun. Lead was formerly obtained from a lead mine just outside the village. A chimney can be seen on the left from the road to Porth Neigwl ("Hell's Mouth"), which marks the entrance to the former lead workings. Church St Engan's Church, Llanegan, St Engan's Church is dedicated to Einion Frenin, Saint Einion Frenin, and was originally established in the late 5th or early 6th century and is one of the oldest churches on the Llŷn Peninsula. St Engan's Church, Llanegan
St Engan's Church is an active parish church in Llanengan, Gwynedd, Wales. The village lies in the south of the Llŷn Peninsula, south-west of Abersoch. Cadw records that the current church dates mainly from the 1530s, with 13th-century origins. It is a Grade I listed building. History The village of Llanengan stands south-west of Abersoch just inland from the southern coast of the Llŷn Peninsula. The church stands in the centre and is dedicated to Einion Frenin, Saint Engan. A Welsh saint of the 5th or 6th centuries, his remains are said to be buried in the church. The church dates from the 13th century, but almost all of the present structure is from a building campaign between 1520 and 1534. Later restorations were undertaken in the 19th and 20th centuries. The church was on the pilgrimage route to St Mary's Abbey ruins, Bardsey Island, St Mary's Abbey on Bardsey Island. The church remains an active parish church in the Diocese of Bangor and regular services are held. ...
