Llandrindod Wells
Llandrindod Wells (; ; ; ) is a town and community (Wales), community in Powys, Wales. It serves as the seat of Powys County Council, and is therefore the administrative centre of Powys. The town was Historic counties of Wales, historically in Radnorshire. Llandrindod Wells developed as a spa town in the 19th century, with a boom in the late 20th century as a centre of local government. Before the 1860s the site of the town was common land in Llanfihangel Cefnllys parish. Llandrindod Wells is the fifth largest town in Powys. The population as of the 2021 UK census was 5,602, an increase on the previous census. Builth Road Railway Station
Builth Road railway station is a station primarily serving the town of Builth Wells, in mid Wales. It is on the Heart of Wales Line. The station is over northwest of Builth Wells via the A470, a busy trunk road. The hamlet of Builth Road has developed around the station. History The station uses one of the high level platforms of the former interchange station with the earlier Mid Wales Railway (closed 31 December 1962) which served the town of Builth Wells directly on its route from Cardiff to the North. The original (low level) station did not bear the name "Builth Road", instead being given the name "Llechryd". Builth Road was the name subsequently given to the Central Wales Extension Railway's high level station on the line from Llandrindod Wells to Llandovery that opened in 1866. Mid Wales Railway
The Mid-Wales Railway was conceived as a trunk route through Wales connecting industrial areas in North West England with sea ports in South West Wales. The company was prevented from reaching its goal by competing proposals in Parliament, and it was only able to build a line between Llanidloes and a junction with the Brecon and Merthyr Railway east of Brecon. The line was long and opened in 1864. The company found it impossible to raise the share subscription, but the contractor partnership of Davies and Savin agreed to build the line and take shares in payment, The line passed through terrain requiring steep gradients and sharp curves in a sparsely populated area with little local traffic, and the limited long distance business was costly to operate. Finding continued independence impossible to sustain, the company amalgamated with the Cambrian Railways in 1904. The International Six Days Enduro (ISDE), formerly known as the International Six Days Trial (ISDT), is the oldest 'off-road' motorcycle event on the FIM Calendar. The ISDT was first held in 1913 at Carlisle, England. It has occurred annually, apart from interruptions due to World War I and World War II, at various locations throughout the world. The early events were a true test of machine, rider skill and reliability. Held on the 'roads' of that era, today most of the routes are truly 'off-road'. Our Lady of Ransom and the Holy Souls Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Llandrindod Wells. It was founded by the Society of Jesus in 1907. It was rebuilt in 1972.Churches from Llandrindod Wells, Powys retrieved 20 October 2013 Its original foundation was the only church the Jesuits built in central Wales. History The Jesuits came to Llandrindod Wells from St Beuno's College near St Asaph and set up a Mass centre in 1907. Masses were originally held in the old presbytery. The "old presbytery was known as "the upper room" when Fr Barling was its priest. Later, at some point in the 20th century, the Jesuits handed over the administration of the church to the Diocese of Menevia.
