Limacidae
Limacidae, also known by their common name the keelback slugs, are a taxonomic family of medium-sized to very large, air-breathing land slugs, terrestrial pulmonate gastropod molluscs in the superfamily Limacoidea. Distribution The distribution of the family Limacidae is the western Palearctic. There are 28 species of Limacidae in Russia and adjacent countries. Anatomy In this family, the number of haploid chromosomes lies between 21 and 25 and also lies between 31 and 35 (according to the values in this table).Barker G. Limax Maximus
''Limax maximus'' (literally, "biggest slug"), known by the common names great grey slug and leopard slug, is a species of slug in the family Limacidae, the keeled slugs.Marshall, B. (2014). Limax maximus Linnaeus, 1758. Accessed through: World Register of Marine Species at http://www.marinespecies.org/aphia.php?p=taxdetails&id=819992 on 2014-11-06 It is among the largest keeled slugs, '' Limax cinereoniger'' being the largest. ''Limax maximus'' is the type species of the genus ''Limax''. The adult slug measures 10–20 cm (4–8 in) in length and is generally a light greyish or grey-brown with darker spots and blotches, although the coloration and exact patterning of the body of this slug species is quite variable. This species has a very unusual and distinctive mating method, where the pair of slugs use a thick thread of mucus to hang suspended in the air from a tree branch or other structure. Although native to Europe, this species has been accidentally introduce ...

Limax
''Limax'' is a genus of air-breathing land slugs in the terrestrial pulmonate gastropod mollusk family Limacidae. The generic name ''Limax'' literally means "slug". Some species, such as the leopard slug (''L. maximus'') and the tawny garden slug (''Limacus flavus''), are considered garden pests.Ebeling. WChapter 12: Miscellaneous Pests. ''Urban Entomology''. Department of Entomology. UC Riverside. 2002. The genus ''Limax'' ''sensu stricto'' is probably monophyletic.Klee, B. 200Towards a phylogeny of ''Limax'' (Gastropoda: Stylommatophora)''. Slug
Slug, or land slug, is a common name for any apparently shell-less terrestrial gastropod mollusc. The word ''slug'' is also often used as part of the common name of any gastropod mollusc that has no shell, a very reduced shell, or only a small internal shell, particularly sea slugs and semislugs (this is in contrast to the common name '' snail'', which applies to gastropods that have a coiled shell large enough that they can fully retract their soft parts into it). Various taxonomic families of land slugs form part of several quite different evolutionary lineages, which also include snails. Thus, the various families of slugs are not closely related, despite a superficial similarity in the overall body form. The shell-less condition has arisen many times independently as an example of convergent evolution, and thus the category "slug" is polyphyletic. Taxonomy Of the six orders of Pulmonata, two – the Onchidiacea and Soleolifera – solely comprise slugs. A third fami ...

Bielzia Coerulans
''Bielzia coerulans'', commonly known as the Carpathian blue slug or simply the blue slug, is a species of very large land slug, a terrestrial pulmonate gastropod in the family Limacidae, the keelback slugs. Taxonomy ''Bielzia coerulans'' was discovered in 1847 and described under the name ''Limax coerulans'' by Austrian-Hungarian malacologist, Michael Bielz (1787-1866), in 1851. (His son Eduard Albert Bielz was also a malacologist.) ''Bielzia coerulans'' is the only species in the genus ''Bielzia''. Wiktor A. (1989). ''Limacoidea et Zonitoidea nuda. Slimaki pomrowioksztaltne (Gastropoda: Stylommatophora)''. Fauna Poloniae 12, Polska Akademia Nauk, Warszawa, 208 pp., page 178-181. Some authors, for example Russian malacologists, classify genus ''Bielzia'' as the only genus (monotypic) within the separate family, Limacopsidae. There is also a separate subfamily, Bielziinae, for genus ''Bielzia'' (I. M. Likharev & Wiktor, 1980). According to the taxonomy of Bouchet & Rocro ...

Ambigolimax
''Ambigolimax'' is a genus of air-breathing land slugs in the family Limacidae, the keelback slugs. There is still ongoing disagreement whether it is more appropriate to consider ''Ambigolimax'' as merely a subgenus of '' Lehmannia''; the evidence for splitting them is phylogenetic trees constructed on the basis of DNA sequences. Species The species in the genus are: * ''Ambigolimax valentianus'' (Férussac, 1822) – Valencia slug, threeband garden slug * '' Ambigolimax parvipenis'' Hutchinson, Reise & Schlitt, 2022 * ''Ambigolimax waterstoni'' Hutchinson, Reise & Schlitt, 2022 In addition, ''Lehmannia melitensis'' is treated as a species of ''Ambigolimax'' by Hutchinson et al. (2022) based on similarity of DNA sequences. (Previous usage of the name ''Ambigolimax nyctelius'' has now been shown to refer to several species that had been confused: ''A. parvipenis'', ''A. waterstoni'', and ''Lehmannia carpatica''. Furthermore this species name actually refers to a speci ...

Pulmonate
Pulmonata or pulmonates, is an informal group (previously an order, and before that a subclass) of snails and slugs characterized by the ability to breathe air, by virtue of having a pallial lung instead of a gill, or gills. The group includes many land and freshwater families, and several marine families. The taxon Pulmonata as traditionally defined was found to be polyphyletic in a molecular study per Jörger ''et al.'', dating from 2010. Pulmonata are known from the Carboniferous Period to the present. Pulmonates have a single atrium and kidney, and a concentrated, symmetrical, nervous system. The mantle cavity is located on the right side of the body, and lacks gills, instead being converted into a vascularised lung. Most species have a shell, but no operculum, although the group does also include several shell-less slugs. Pulmonates are hermaphroditic, and some groups possess love darts. Linnean taxonomy The taxonomy of this group according to the taxonomy of ...
