Lenvik () is a List of former municipalities of Norway, former municipality in Troms Counties of Norway, county, Norway. The municipality existed from 1838 until its dissolution in 2020. The municipality was partly situated on the mainland and partly on the Senja (island), island of Senja in what is now Senja Municipality. The administrative centre was the List of towns and cities in Norway, town of Finnsnes, where the Gisund Bridge connects Senja to the mainland on Norwegian County Road 86. Other villages in the municipality included Aglapsvik, Gibostad, Botnhamn, Fjordgård, Finnfjordbotn, Husøy, Senja, Husøy, Langnes, Troms, Langnes, Laukhella, Silsand, and Rossfjordstraumen. Senja Municipality
Senja is a municipality in Troms county, Norway. It was established on 1 January 2020 when the municipalities of Berg, Lenvik, Torsken, and Tranøy were merged into one municipality. It is located in the traditional district of Hålogaland. The administrative centre of the municipality is the town of Finnsnes. List Of Former Municipalities Of Norway
This is a list of former municipalities of Norway, i.e. municipalities that no longer exist. When the local council system was introduced in Norway in 1837-38, the country had 392 municipalities. By 1958, the number had grown to a total of 744 rural municipalities, 64 city municipalities as well as a small number of small seaports with '' ladested'' status. A committee led by Nikolai Schei, formed in 1946 to examine the situation, proposed hundreds of mergers to reduce the number of municipalities and improve the quality of local administration. Most of the mergers were carried out, albeit to significant popular protest. By 1966, most of the mergers had been carried out and there were only 470 municipalities remaining. is a List of towns and cities in Norway, town that is the administrative centre of Senja Municipality in Troms county, Norway. Gibostad
or is a village on the large island of Senja in Senja Municipality in Troms county, Norway. Gibostad is a former trading centre, located about north of the Gisund Bridge. Many of the buildings in the harbour area are about 200 years old. The soil is very fertile and therefore suitable for farming, which is why there is an agricultural school at Senja Upper Secondary School. The lake Lysvatnet is located just west of the village. Geir-Inge Sivertsen (born 29 August 1965) is a Norwegian engineer and politician for the Conservative Party. He is currently the mayor of Senja since 2023. He served as minister of fisheries from January to March 2020, and previously served as mayor of Lenvik from 2011 to 2019. Botnhamn is a village in Senja Municipality in Troms county, Norway. The small village is located more than north of the Arctic Circle on the northern part of the large island of Senja. The village lies along the west side of the Stønnesbotn fjord. The population (2001) was 308. Botnhamn experiences warm summers and long, dark winters.
