Based in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, the group was founded and created in 1992 by Jean-Luc Lagardère under the name Matra, Hachette & Lagardère. Lagardère Live Entertainment is an entertainment agency subsidiary of Lagardère Group. The subsidiary was formed as Lagardère Sports and Entertainment by the merger of several brands under the group, including Sportfive; World Sport Group; IEC in Sports; Sports Marketing and Management; and Lagardère Unlimited Inc. After partial sale of Lagardère Sports in 2020 and subsequent full sale in 2021, the remaining division became Lagardère Live Entertainment. Arnaud Lagardère (; born 18 March 1961) is a French businessman, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Lagardère SA, holding company of the Lagardère group and Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Hachette Livre. He is the son of Jean-Luc Lagardère, the former chairman of Matra and Hachette. Jean-Luc Lagardère (; 10 February 1928 – 14 March 2003) was a major French businessman, CEO of the Lagardère Group, one of the largest French conglomerates. Career Jean-Luc Lagardère was a '' Supélec'' engineer. He began his career in Dassault Aviation. As CEO of Matra in the 1960s, he became famous with success in Formula One and Le Mans. He later built a large media and defense conglomerate that bears his name. He was a member of the Saint-Simon Foundation think-tank. In 1981, with his friend Daniel Filipacchi, he purchased Hachette magazines, which included the French ''TV Guide'' (''Tele 7 Jours''), and the then-struggling ''Elle'' magazine.
