Kurgan Oblast
Kurgan Oblast () is a federal subject of Russia (an oblast). Its administrative center is the city of Kurgan. According to the 2021 Census, the population was 776,661, down from 910,807 recorded in the 2010 Census. History Formed by Decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of February 6, 1943. The region included 32 districts of the eastern part of the Chelyabinsk region and 4 districts of the Omsk region with a total population of 975,000. Recipient of the Order of Lenin (1959). Geography Kurgan Oblast is located in Southern Russia and is part of the Urals Federal District. Filatovo (lake)
Filatovo () is a body of water in Makushinsky District, Kurgan Oblast, Russia.Google Earth It is the largest lake in the district. The lake is located to the south of Makushino and to the southwest of Petukhovo. Presnovka, the capital of Zhambyl District, North Kazakhstan Region, lies to the south, in Kazakhstan. Geography Filatovo is a salt lake of the Ishim Plain, the southern part of the West Siberian Plain. The lake is roughly drop-shaped and the western shore has a landspit projecting eastwards. The Kazakhstan–Russia border fringes the southern end of the lake. The area where Filatovo is located is dotted with smaller lakes. Medvezhye (), meaning "bear lake", is a body of water in Petukhovsky District, Kurgan Oblast, Russian Federation.Google Earth There are two settlements by the lake Kurort Ozero Medvezhye and Novoye Ilinskoye. The mud of the lake is deemed to have medicinal properties. According to legend a bear with a sore paw dipped it in the lake and was healed. Lake Medvezhye is a protected area.
