Kanabec County ( ) is a County (United States), county in the East Central part of U.S. state of Minnesota. As of the 2020 United States census, 2020 census, the population was 16,032. Its county seat is Mora, Minnesota, Mora. History The Minnesota legislature authorized creation of Kanabec County on March 13, 1858, with territory partitioned from Pine County, Minnesota, Pine County. No county seat was designated at that time, and the county organization was not effected at that time. The county name came from Ojibwe language, the Ojibwe term ''ginebig'', meaning "snake," after the Snake River (St. Croix River), Snake River — ''Kanabecosippi'' (''Ginebigo-ziibi'' in the modern spelling) — which flows through the county. The area of Kanabec County was attached to Chisago County, Minnesota, Chisago County for administrative and judicial purposes. Kanabec County Courthouse
The Kanabec County Courthouse, located at 18 Vine Street North in Mora, Kanabec County in the U.S. state of Minnesota is a beige brick, Romanesque building, featuring a prominent 4-story center tower. The courthouse sits on a stone foundation. Arched windows and doorways with brown sandstone sills lend distinction. The following is an incomplete list of county-maintained roads in Kanabec County, Minnesota, United States. Though some of them are county state aid highways (CSAH), all Kanabec County highways bear the black and white standard square shield for County Routes rather than having the CSAH bearing the blue and gold pentagonal M1-6 shield for those that are CSAH designated routes. CR 1–CR 30 County Road 1 is a route servicing Mora, Arthur Township and Comfort Township. The route begins at its intersection with ''Walnut Street'' ( CR 17), heads east on ''Howe Avenue'', heads concurrently south on ''Mahogany Street'' ( CR 11), heads east on ''195th Avenue'' and terminates at the county line.
