Johnny Cash
John R. Cash (born J. R. Cash; February 26, 1932 – September 12, 2003) was an American singer-songwriter. Most of his music contains themes of sorrow, moral tribulation, and redemption, especially songs from the later stages of his career. He was known for his deep, calm, bass-baritone voice, the distinctive sound of his backing band, the Tennessee Three, that was characterized by its train-like chugging guitar rhythms, a rebelliousness coupled with an increasingly somber and humble demeanor, and his free prison concerts. Cash wore a trademark all-black stage wardrobe, which earned him the Honorific nicknames in popular music, nickname "Man in Black (song), Man in Black". Born to poor cotton farmers in Kingsland, Arkansas, Cash grew up on gospel music and played on a local radio station in high school. Kingsland, Arkansas
Kingsland, officially the City of Kingsland, is a small List of municipalities in Arkansas, city in Cleveland County, Arkansas, Cleveland County, south central Arkansas, United States. It is included in the Pine Bluff, Arkansas metropolitan statistical area, and had a population of 447 at the 2010 United States Census, 2010 U.S. census. Bass-baritone
A bass-baritone is a high-lying bass or low-lying "classical" baritone voice type which shares certain qualities with the true baritone voice. The term arose in the late 19th century to describe the particular type of voice required to sing three Wagnerian roles: the title role in '' Der fliegende Holländer'', Wotan/Der Wanderer in the '' Ring Cycle'' and Hans Sachs in '' Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg''. The Highwaymen (country Supergroup)
The Highwaymen was an American country music supergroup (music), supergroup, composed of four of country music's biggest artists who pioneered the outlaw country subgenre: Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson, and Kris Kristofferson. Between 1985 and 1995, the group recorded three major label albums as The Highwaymen: two on Columbia Records and one for Liberty Records. Their Columbia works produced three chart singles, including the number one "Highwayman (song), Highwayman" in 1985. The House of Cash was a museum in Hendersonville, Tennessee, owned by American musician Johnny Cash and his wife June Carter Cash, and devoted to his life and work. With part of the building also used as their headquarters offices, the museum opened in 1970, adapted from a dinner theatre built in 1960. It closed by 1995. It was located at 700 East Main Street (now known as Johnny Cash Parkway). A new and unrelated Johnny Cash Museum opened in Nashville, Tennessee, in 2013. History The House of Cash was adapted from the 15,000 square foot Plantation Dinner Theatre built in 1960. American Recordings (formerly Def American Recordings, Inc.) is an American record label headed by producer Rick Rubin.
