Isle Of Man TT
The Isle of Man TT or Tourist Trophy races are an annual motorcycle racing event run on the Isle of Man in May and June of most years since its inaugural race in 1907 Isle of Man TT, 1907. The event begins on the UK Spring Bank Holiday at the end of May and runs for thirteen days. It is often called one of the most dangerous racing events in the world as List of Isle of Man TT Mountain Course fatalities, many competitors have died. Senior TT
The Senior Tourist Trophy is a motorcycle road race that takes place during the Isle of Man TT festival, an annual event traditionally held over the last week in May and the first week in June. Beryl Swain (née Beryl J Tolman, 22 January 1936 – 15 May 2007) was a female road racing, road racer of solo motorcycles from the London area. In 1962, she was the first woman to compete in a TT race for solo motorcycles on the Isle of Man TT course. Early life Beryl Tolman was born on 22 January 1936 and brought up in Walthamstow, in North East London. Snaefell
Snaefell () – () is the highest mountain and the only summit above on the Isle of Man, at above sea level. The summit is crowned by a railway station, cafe, several communications masts and can be reached by narrow gauge railway. Views It is a well-known saying in the Isle of Man that on a clear day six kingdoms can be seen from the top: the Isle of Man, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales and Heaven. 1976 Isle Of Man TT
The 1976 Isle of Man TT was the fifth round of the 1976 Grand Prix motorcycle racing season held on the Isle of Man between 7 June and 12 June 1976. The racing would be the final time the Isle of Man TT was an official round on the Grand Prix calendar. Although it had once been the most prestigious race of the year, racing around the Snaefell Mountain Course had been increasingly boycotted by the eras' top riders over safety concerns. Bowing to pressure for increased rider safety at racing events, FIM moved the Grand Prix to England in 1977 with the British Grand Prix being held at the Silverstone Circuit. 1949 Isle Of Man TT
The 1949 Isle of Man Tourist Trophy was the first round of the Grand Prix World Championship that was held in the Isle of Man. At the FICM (later known as ''FIM'') meeting in London near the end of 1948, it was decided there would be a motorcycle World Championship along Grand Prix lines. It would be a six-race annual series with points being awarded for a placing and a point for the fastest lap of each race. There would be five classes: 500 cc, 350 cc, 250 cc, 125 cc and 600 cc sidecar. The historic Isle of Man TT would be one of those races, and this toughest and most dangerous of Grand Prix motorcycle races would be a mainstay on the GP calendar until 1976. Grand Prix motorcycle racing is the highest class of motorcycle road racing events held on Road racing, road circuits sanctioned by the Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM). Independent motorcycle racing events have been held since the start of the twentieth century and large national events were often given the title Grand Prix. The International Motorcycling Federation (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) or (FIM) is the global governing/sanctioning body of motorcycle racing. It represents 123 national motorcycle federations that are divided into six continental unions. Manx Grand Prix
The Manx Grand Prix motorcycle races are held on the Isle of Man TT Course (or ' Mountain Circuit') annually, usually at the end of August and early September. Traditionally the event has been staged over a two week period but this was reduced in 2022 to nine days. 2023 saw the 100th Anniversary of the event. The MGP or Manx (as it is more commonly known) is considered to be the amateur rider's alternative and a learning experience for the Isle of Man TT races held in May/June. The event differs from the TT in that it does not cater for sidecars. A 'Classic TT' race category for historic racing machines was added in 2013 as part of the Manx Government Department of Economic Development's expansion to create what is termed ''Festival of Motorcycling'' to breathe new life into the event.
