Tracy Lauren Marrow (born February 16, 1958), known professionally as Ice-T (or Ice T), is an American rapper and actor. He is active in both hip hop music, hip hop and heavy metal music, heavy metal. Ice-T began his career as an underground rapper in the 1980s and was signed to Sire Records in 1987, when he released his debut album ''Rhyme Pays''. The following year, he founded the record label Records (named after his collective of fellow hip-hop artists called the "") and released another album, ''Power (Ice-T album), Power'' (1988), which is Ice-T's only album to be certified Music recording certification, platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America, RIAA. His next three albums, ''The Iceberg/Freedom of Speech... Just Watch What You Say!'' (1989), ''O.G. Body Count (album)
''Body Count'' is the debut studio album by American heavy metal band Body Count, released on March 10, 1992, by Sire Records. The album's material focuses on various social and political issues ranging from police brutality to drug abuse. It also presents a turning point in the career of Ice-T, who co-wrote the album's songs with lead guitarist Ernie C and performed as the band's lead singer. Previously known only as a rapper, Ice-T's work with the band helped establish a crossover audience with rock music fans. The album produced the single " There Goes the Neighborhood". ''Body Count'' is well known for the inclusion of the controversial song " Cop Killer", which was the subject of much criticism from various political figures, although many defended the song on the basis of the group's right to freedom of speech. Power (Ice-T Album)
''Power'' is the second studio album by American rapper Ice-T, released on September 13, 1988, by Sire Records. Recorded at Syndicate Studios West in Los Angeles, the home studio of DJ Evil E, it was produced by Ice-T and Afrika Islam. The ''Los Angeles Daily News'' noted that its lyrical themes ranged from sex to gun violence, and that Ice-T "implicates everyone from radio programmers to the police as accomplices in the decline of western civilisation." The album contains lyrics that began a feud between Ice-T and rapper LL Cool J. The album cover, which features Ice-T's then-girlfriend Darlene Ortiz, Ice-T, and DJ Evil E, was described as "perpetuating stereotypes" by the ''Chicago Tribune'' and "violence-glorifying" by both the ''Chicago Sun-Times'' and ''The Sydney Morning Herald''. Body Count (band)
Body Count is an American Heavy metal music, heavy metal band formed in Los Angeles in 1990. The group is fronted by Ice-T, who first established himself as a rap music, rapper but co-founded the group with lead guitarist Ernie C out of their interest in heavy metal music. Ice-T took on the role of vocalist and writing the lyrics for most of Body Count's songs, while Ernie C has been responsible for writing the group's music. Body Count's Body Count (album), self-titled debut album was released on Sire Records in 1992, and garnered much attention due to a controversy around the song "Cop Killer (song), Cop Killer". Their label, Sire Records, and their parent company, Warner Bros. Records, defended the song; however Ice-T chose to remove it from the album because he felt that the controversy had eclipsed the music itself. ''Home Invasion'' is the fifth studio album by American rapper Ice-T, released on March 23, 1993, via /Priority Records. It was originally set for release in 1992 as part of his deal with Sire/Warner Bros. Records, and supposed to be his first official release through his own record label, now in full control of the content as part of a new distribution deal with Priority Records. Background ''Home Invasion'' was the first album that Ice-T released following the controversy over the Body Count song " Cop Killer". Sire/Warner Bros. Records had stood by freedom of expression during the controversy, although some within the Time Warner conglomerate now favored a more pragmatic policy. The album was originally set for a November 15, 1992, release, but the Rodney King riots were still fresh in people's minds, an election was in process, and politically-minded releases by 2Pac, Ice Cube and Dr. Dre were causing controversy, so Ice-T agreed to postpone ''Home Invasion''s release, in ad ... ''Rhyme Pays'' is the debut studio album by American rapper Ice-T, released on July 28, 1987, by Sire Records. The album peaked at number 93 on the US Billboard 200, ''Billboard'' 200 and number 23 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts, and was certified RIAA Certification, gold by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA). Music and lyrics The album, especially tracks like "6 in the Mornin', 6 'N the Morning", is considered to have defined the gangsta rap genre. Ice-T claims that this would be his first hip hop music, hip hop album to be carrying a Parental Advisory, parental advisory warning label, although, it was years before the industry-standard explicit-lyrics sticker was developed and Too Short, Too $hort's first album that also had to be carried with an "Explicit Lyrics" warning back in 1985.
