Houston Astros Seasons
This is a list of seasons completed by the Houston Astros, originally known as the Houston Colt .45s, a professional baseball franchise based in Houston, Texas; they played in the National League (baseball), National League from their inception in 1962 to the 2012 season; in 2013, the team was moved to the American League. The Astros in total have completed 61 seasons in Major League Baseball, qualifying for the postseason sixteen times and reaching the World Series five times (2005, 2017, 2019, 2021 and 2022) with two world championships (2017, 2022). The team was established as an expansion franchise in 1962, one of eight teams that was created in the decade. The team's first winning season was in 1972. A minute is a unit of time defined as equal to 60 seconds. It is not a unit in the International System of Units (SI), but is Non-SI units mentioned in the SI, accepted for use with SI. The National League Championship Series (NLCS) is a best-of-seven playoff and one of two League Championship Series comprising the penultimate round of Major League Baseball's (MLB) postseason. It is contested by the winners of the two National League (NL) Division Series. The winner of the NLCS wins the NL pennant and advances to the World Series, MLB's championship series, to play the winner of the American League's (AL) Championship Series. Doug Rader
Douglas Lee Rader (born July 30, 1944), nicknamed "the Red Rooster", is an American former manager, coach, and third baseman in Major League Baseball (MLB) who was known primarily for his defensive ability, winning five straight Gold Glove Awards from 1970 to 1974. Rader's career lasted from 1967 to 1977, playing for the Houston Astros, San Diego Padres, and Toronto Blue Jays, then later managed the Texas Rangers, Chicago White Sox, and California Angels between 1983 and 1991. Also nicknamed "Rojo", Rader earned his nickname "the Red Rooster" from the thick head of red hair which always protruded from under his cap. Early life and college Rader was born on July 30, 1944, in Chicago. He attended Glenbrook North High School in Northbrook, Illinois, and Illinois Wesleyan University. 1970 Houston Astros Season
The 1970 Houston Astros season was the ninth season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located in Houston, Texas, their sixth as the Astros, their ninth in the National League (NL), second in the NL West division, and sixth at The Astrodome. The Astros entered the season having posted a record of 81–81, for fifth place and 12 games behind the division-champion Atlanta Braves. The Astros' first round draft pick in the amateur draft was pitcher Randy Scarbery, at third overall. Second baseman Joe Morgan and shortstop Denis Menke represented the Astros at the MLB All-Star Game, the second career selection for both. National League West
The National League West is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. This division was created for the 1969 season when the National League (baseball), National League (NL) expanded to 12 teams by adding the San Diego Padres and the Montreal Expos. For purpose of keeping a regular-season of 162 games, half of the teams were put into the new National League East, East Division and half into the new West Division. Within each division, the teams played 18 games each against their five division mates (90 games), and also 12 games against the teams in the opposite division (72 games), totaling 162 games. The 1968 Houston Astros season was the seventh season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located in Houston, Texas, their fourth as the Astros, seventh in the National League (NL), and fourth at The Astrodome. The Astros entered the season with a record of 68–93, in ninth place and games behind the NL pennant and World Series-winning St. Louis Cardinals. The 1967 Houston Astros season was the sixth season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located in Houston, Texas, their third as the Astros, sixth in the National League (NL), and third at The Astrodome. The Astros entered the season with a 72–90 record, in 8th place and 23 games behind the NL pennant-winning Los Angeles Dodgers. On June 15, 1967, Jimmy Wynn connected for the first three-home run game in franchise history. Don Wilson tossed the third no-hitter in franchise history on June 18 for a 2–0 victory over the Atlanta Braves. The 1966 Houston Astros season was the fifth season for the Major League Baseball (MLB) franchise located in Houston, Texas, their second as the Astros, fifth in the National League (NL), and second at The Astrodome. The Astros entered the season with a 65–97 record, in 9th place, and 32 games behind first place in the National League. The 1965 season was the first for Grady Hatton as manager, the third in franchise history, having replaced Lum Harris.
