History Of Football In Lebanon
Football is the most popular sport in Lebanon. It was introduced to Lebanon in the late-19th century, becoming particularly popular among teachers and students Christian schools. The Lebanese Football Association (LFA) was formed in 1933 as one of the earliest administrative bodies for association football in the Middle East. The Lebanon national team made its unofficial debut in 1935 against Romanian club CA Timișoara (T.A.C.), while their first official FIFA game was in 1940 against Mandatory Palestine. Armenian clubs, namely Homenetmen and Homenmen, led the early football scene between the 1940s and the 1960s; the civil war between 1975 and 1990 made it impossible to practice football in Lebanon. The AFC Champions League Elite (abbreviated as the ACL Elite) is an annual continental club association football, football competition organised by the Asian Football Confederation, and contested by Asia's List of top-division football clubs in AFC countries, top-division football clubs. Homenmen Sports Association Beirut (; ), or simply Homenmen, is a Armenians in Lebanon, Lebanese-Armenian multi-sports club based in Beirut, Lebanon, section of the pan-Armenian sports and scouting organisation of the Homenmen, same name. Founded in 1921, the football club competes in the , having won the Lebanese Premier League four times, and the Lebanese Elite Cup once. Homenetmen Sports Association Beirut (; ), or simply Homenetmen, is a football club based in Beirut, Lebanon, that competes in the . It is the association football branch of the larger Lebanese-Armenian multi-sports and scouting organisation of the same name. Homenetmen Beirut was established in 1924, just six years after establishment of Homenetmen in Constantinople. The club won seven Lebanese Premier League and three Lebanese FA Cup titles. Mandatory Palestine National Football Team
The Mandatory Palestine national football team, also known as the ''Eretz Israel'' national football team (), represented the British Mandate of Palestine in international football competitions, and was managed by the Palestine Football Association (). Football was introduced to Palestine by the British military during World War I and further developed by European Jewish immigrants. In 1928, Yosef Yekutieli, a leader of the Maccabi World Union, founded the Palestine Football Association. It achieved FIFA membership in 1929, despite in practice being an almost exclusively Jewish organisation at a time when Jews represented a minority of the country's population. The 1940 association football match between the national teams of Mandatory Palestine national football team, Mandatory Palestine and Lebanon national football team, Lebanon was the latter's first official international match, and the former's last before they became the Israel national football team, Israel national team after 1948. CA Timișoara
Club Atletic Timișoara, known as CA Timișoara or simply CAT, was a football club from Timișoara. The team was founded in 1902 under the name Temesvári Football Club, later becoming Temesvári Atletikai Club, when the city was part of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. After World War I, it competed under the name CA Timișoara in the leagues of the Kingdom of Romania. Lebanon National Football Team
The Lebanon national football team, controlled by the Lebanese Football Association (LFA), have represented Lebanon in association football since their inception in 1933. The squad is governed by the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) continentally, and FIFA worldwide. While Lebanon have yet to qualify for the FIFA World Cup, they have qualified three times to the AFC Asian Cup: they first participated in 2000, when they hosted the event. The Lebanese Football Association (LFA; ; ) is the governing body of association football in Lebanon. Formed in 1933, it is a member of both FIFA and the Asian Football Confederation, AFC. Christianity has a long and continuous history in Lebanon. Biblical scriptures show that Saint Peter, Peter and Paul the Apostle, Paul evangelized the Phoenicians, leading to the dawn of the ancient Patriarch of Antioch, Patriarchate of Antioch.
