Harstad (; ) is the second-most populated municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is mostly located on the large island of Hinnøya. The municipal center is the Harstad (town), town of Harstad, which is the most populous town in Central Hålogaland and the third-largest in all of Northern Norway. The town was incorporated in 1904. Villages in the municipality include Elgsnes, Fauskevåg, Gausvika, Grøtavær, Kasfjord, Lundenes, Nergården and Sørvika. Harstad-Narvik Airport (; ) is an international airport located in Evenes Municipality in Nordland county, Norway. The airport serves the towns of Harstad (town), Harstad and Narvik (town), Narvik. It is co-located with Evenes Air Station of the Royal Norwegian Air Force. The civilian sector is owned and operated by the state-owned Avinor and handled 654,977 passengers in 2013. Harstad Church
Harstad Church () is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Harstad Municipality in Troms county, Norway. It is located in the town of Harstad. It is the church for the Harstad parish which is part of the Trondenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Nord-Hålogaland. The white, concrete church was built in a long church style in 1958 using plans drawn up by the architect Jan Inge Hovig. The church seats about 600 people. History Planning for a church for the town of Harstad began in the early 20th century, but it took more than 50 years before this dream was realized. Prior to this, the nearby Trondenes Church served the growing town of Harstad. In 1939, a major reconstruction effort began on the Trondenes Church and during that time the church was closed. Bjug Harstad
Bjug Harstad (December 17, 1848 – June 20, 1933) was a Lutheran pastor, founding president of Pacific Lutheran University, and first president of the Evangelical Lutheran Synod. Biography Bjug Aanondson was one of ten children born on the Harstad farm near Valle in Aust-Agder, Norway. In 1861 his family emigrated to the United States. Bjug was a student at Luther College from 1865 to 1871. He studied theology at Concordia Seminary in St. Louis from 1871 to 1874. It was his experiences there that became the model for the rest of his scholarly and religious life. After seminary, he traveled as a pastor to remote areas of Minnesota, where he built schools and churches. Harstad married Guro Svensdatter Omlid in 1877. Harstad Idrettslag is a Norwegian sports club from Harstad, Troms. It has association football, futsal and nordic skiing sections. The club formerly had sections for track and field, skiing and speed skating, but this was discontinued in 1987. The club colors are yellow and black, and their home field is Harstad stadion. This was Norway's first football stadium with artificial turf. The men's football team currently plays in the 4. divisjon, the fifth tier of Norwegian football. The team last played in the Norwegian First Division in 1997. After that they had a long run in the Second Division. Trude Harstad (born 17 July 1974) is a former Norwegian biathlete. Life and career Harstad was born in the municipality of Birkenes in the southern part of Norway. Harstad debuted at the Junior World Championships in 1993 in Ruhpolding. The first event was the team event, which was not a success, as the Norwegian team composed of Harstad, Gunn Margit Andreassen and Liv Grete Skjelbreid came 9th. She did not race in the 10 km individual, but came 15th in the 7.5 km sprint. She was not a part of the relay team, which won gold.
