Harrier (bird)
A harrier is a member of the genus ''Circus'' in Accipitridae, a family (biology), family of birds of prey. Harriers characteristically hunt by flying low over open ground, feeding on small mammals, reptiles, or birds. The young of the species are sometimes referred to as ring-tail harriers. They are distinctive with long wings, a long narrow tail, the slow and low flight over grasslands and skull peculiarities. The harriers are thought to have diversified with the expansion of grasslands and the emergence of List of C4 plants, grasses about 6 to 8 million years ago during the Late Miocene and Pliocene. Taxonomy The genus ''Circus'' was introduced by the French naturalist Bernard Germain de Lacépède in 1799. The type species was subsequently designated as the western marsh harrier. Coventry Godiva Harriers (CGH) is an athletics club based in Coventry, West Midlands, England. The club name refers to the notable Lady Godiva of Coventry and the sport of "hare and hounds" cross country running. The club uses the University of Warwick athletics track. The main towns were Hexham, Haltwhistle and Prudhoe. The district contained part of Hadrian's Wall and the southern part of Northumberland National Park. Tipton Harriers are a running team based at the Tipton Sports Academy on the Wednesbury Oak Road in Tipton, West Midlands (county), West Midlands, England. They are regularly on top in the Wharfedale Triangle League, a league between Wolves and Bilston AC, Tipton Harriers and Dudley and Stourbridge Harriers. Ranelagh Harriers is a road running and cross-country club based in Petersham, Richmond, south-west London, England. The headquarters are its clubhouse, which is behind The Dysart restaurant and right next to Richmond Park, allowing plenty of opportunity for off-road running.
