Handong Global University () is a private evangelical four-year university located in Pohang, North Gyeongsang, South Korea, with a campus of approximately . History The university was founded in December 1994. The founder, Song Tae-Hun, was an owner of a medium-sized company, and donated land and funds to establish a Christian university. Pohang, North Gyeongsang
Pohang (; ), formerly spelled Po-Hang, is the largest city in North Gyeongsang Province, South Korea, with a population of 499,363 as of 2022, bordering the East Sea to the east, Yeongcheon to the west, Gyeongju to the south, and Cheongsong and Yeongdeok to the north. Kim Young-gil
Dr. Young-Gil Kim (born October 3, 1939) founded and chartered Handong Global University in Pohang, Korea in 1995, and he served as its president from 1995 - 2014. Since then, he nurtured HGU to what it is today with his new educational philosophy based on cross-border, multidisciplinary and whole-person education with global perspective commensurate with the 21st century. Life Prior to becoming the president of HGU, Dr. Kim was a professor of material science and engineering at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) for 15 years.
