Nicoline Christine Hambro (née Harbitz; 1 January 1861 – 9 May 1926) was a Norwegian politician and proponent for women's rights. She was born in Bergen; the daughter of Niels Andreas Harbitz and Elisabeth Christine Harbitz. She married educator Edvard Isak Hambro in 1880, and was the mother of politician C. J. Hambro and educator Elise Hambro. She took actively part in the administration of several contemporary political and social issues, such as welfare undertakings for female sailors and seamstresses, female police, homes for prostitutes, and pauperism. Leonid Hambro (June 26, 1920 – October 23, 2006) was an American concert pianist and composer. Life Hambro was born in Chicago, the son of immigrant Lithuanian Jews; his father was a pianist accompanying silent films. He studied at the Juilliard School, and won First Prize at the National Naumburg Competition in 1946. He was the musical sidekick of pianist and humorist Victor Borge for ten years, from 1961 to 1969, and occasionally performed with Borge throughout the remainder of Borge's career. In 1970 he became the Head of the Piano Department of the California Institute of the Arts, in Santa Clarita, California, and Assistant Dean of the School of Music, holding these posts until 1992. Leonard William Hambro, known as Lenny Hambro (October 16, 1923 – September 26, 1995), was a journeyman jazz musician who played woodwinds, primarily alto saxophone, with a host of bands, orchestras, and jazz notables from the early 1940s through the mid-1960s, and continued as a session musician, music producer, booking agent, and entertainment coordinator through the mid-1990s. Early in his professional career, Hambro spelled his name "Lennie" but changed it to the former spelling in 1954, although he was occasionally referred to as "Lennie" in the press as late as 1957. Hambro broke into the profession with Gene Krupa in 1942. Johan Randulf Bull Hambro (24 October 1915 – 27 February 1993) was a Norwegian journalist, translator and biographer. He was the fourth son of Norwegian politician C. J. Hambro, whose biography he wrote in 1984. He lived in the United States from 1939 to 1982, where he studied and worked as a foreign-affairs journalist, press attaché and consulate-general.
