An oscillation in the Electrical conductivity, conductivity of a material that occurs at low temperatures in the presence of very intense magnetic fields, the Shubnikov–de Haas effect (SdH) is a macroscopic manifestation of the inherent quantum mechanical nature of matter. It is often used to determine the Effective mass (solid-state physics), effective mass of charge carriers (electrons and electron holes), allowing investigators to distinguish among majority carrier, majority and minority carrier populations. The effect is named after Wander Johannes de Haas and Lev Shubnikov. The primary purpose of the destroyer escort was to escort and protect ships in convoy, in addition to other tasks as assigned, such as patrol or radar picket. Namesake John William Haas was born on 14 June 1907 in Sioux City, Iowa. The Walter A. Haas Jr. Pavilion is an indoor arena on the campus of the University of California in Berkeley. The Haas–Lilienthal House is a historic building located at 2007 Franklin Street in San Francisco, California, United States, within the Pacific Heights neighborhood. Built in 1886 for William and Bertha Haas, it survived the 1906 San Francisco earthquake and subsequent fire. Haas (brass Instrument Makers)
The Haas family was a German family of brass instrument makers. They had a factory in the city of Nuremberg. Johann Wilhelm Haas (baptized 6 Aug 1649, Nuremberg – buried 2 July 1723, Nuremberg) was the first of the family to make brass instruments. Johann was the son of two generations of guards of the city night watch who played trumpet calls as part of their duties. He most likely learned to make instruments from Hanns Hainlein (1598–1671). He achieved the title of master craftsman in 1676 and became the most well known of all the Nuremberg brass makers. Both Johann Haas's son Wolf Wilhelm Haas (1681–1760) and grandson Ernst Johann Conrad Haas (1723–1792) followed him into the brass instrument making business. Wolf and Ernst Haas both signed their work with Johann Haas's name rather than using their own names. Einstein–de Haas Effect
The Einstein–de Haas effect is a physical phenomenon in which a change in the magnetic moment of a free body causes this body to rotate. The effect is a consequence of the conservation of angular momentum. It is strong enough to be observable in ferromagnetic materials. The experimental observation and accurate measurement of the effect demonstrated that the phenomenon of magnetization is caused by the alignment ( polarization) of the angular momenta of the electrons in the material along the axis of magnetization. These measurements also allow the separation of the two contributions to the magnetization: that which is associated with the spin from that which is due to the orbital motion of the electrons. The effect also demonstrated the close relation between the notions of angular momentum in classical and in quantum physics. The effect was predicted by O. W. Richardson in 1908.
