Gothenburg
Gothenburg ( ; ) is the List of urban areas in Sweden by population, second-largest city in Sweden, after the capital Stockholm, and the fifth-largest in the Nordic countries. Situated by the Kattegat on the west coast of Sweden, it is the gubernatorial seat of Västra Götaland County, with a population of approximately 600,000 in the city proper and about 1.1 million inhabitants in Metropolitan Gothenburg, the metropolitan area. Gothenburg Municipality
Gothenburg Municipality ( or ) is a municipality in Västra Götaland County in western Sweden. Its seat is located in the city of Gothenburg. When the first Swedish local government acts were implemented in 1863 the City of Gothenburg, founded and chartered in 1621, became a city municipality with an elected city council (). Its territory has since then been added through amalgamations in 1868, 1906, 1922, 1931, 1945, 1948, 1967 and 1974. The local government reform of 1971 made the city a unitary municipality, like all others in the country. The municipality prefers, however, to style itself (''City of Gothenburg''), whenever legally possible. Nordstaden
Nordstaden is a central district of Gothenburg, Sweden, to the north of Stora Hamnkanalen and a part of Gothenburg's original city area. The district is divided by Östra Hamngatan, previously Östra Hamnkanalen, into Östra Nordstaden and Västra Nordstaden. The district has an area of 42 hectares. The last houses in Östra Nordstaden were torn down in May 1971 to give space for the shopping centre Nordstan. Västra Nordstaden mostly consists of older buildings, such as Kronhuset, the Gothenburg City Hall, the Bourse (Gothenburg), Bourse, the German Church, Gothenburg, German Church, Ostindiska huset and the former Sjöbefälsskolan. The Museum of Gothenburg () is a local history museum located in the city centre of Gothenburg in western Sweden. It is located in the East India House (), originally built as the Swedish East India Company offices in 1762. The city museum was established in 1861. The City Museum is a cultural history museum. It displays Gothenburg and West Sweden's history, from the Viking Age to the present day. There is a permanent exhibition about the Swedish East India Company. Skansen Lejonet
Skansen Lejonet ("the Lion Sconce (fortification), Sconce"), formally Westgötha Leijon ("the Västergötland, Westrogothic Lion"), is a redoubt on the hill Gullberg in Gothenburg, Sweden, built in 1687–92 on the site of an earlier medieval castle. It was decommissioned in 1822 and has since served a range of other purposes. The fortress and its twin, Skansen Kronan, were built to protect the city of Gothenburg against possible Denmark-Norway, Danish attack, and thus had a similar purpose to the coastal defence and fortification#sea forts, sea fort of New Älvsborg, which was built around the same time.
