Golden Gate Park is an urban park between the Richmond District, San Francisco, Richmond and Sunset District, San Francisco, Sunset districts on the West Side (San Francisco), West Side of San Francisco, California, United States. It is the List of parks in San Francisco, largest urban park in the city, containing , and the third-most visited urban park in the United States, with an estimated 24 million visitors annually. The creation of a large park in San Francisco was first proposed in the 1860s. In 1865, landscape architect Frederick Law Olmsted proposed a park designed with species native to San Francisco. The plan was rejected for a Central Park-style park designed by engineer William Hammond Hall. The park was built atop shore and sand dunes in an unincorporated area known as the Outside Lands. Spreckels Temple Of Music
Spreckels Temple of Music, also called the bandshell, constructed in 1900, is in the Music Concourse at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. It was a gift to the city from sugar magnate Claus Spreckels and is one of the largest bandshells in North America. History The Spreckels Temple of Music was the third bandstand in the park. The first was built in 1882, and a larger one was built 1888. In 1895, discussions began about building a larger bandshell to accommodate the "Sunday and holiday crowds." Adolph B. Spreckels, president of the San Francisco Park Commission, convinced his father, sugar magnate Claus Spreckels, founder of the Spreckels Sugar Company, to pay for it. Spreckels spent $75,000 towards the $78,810 cost of the building. Hardly Strictly Bluegrass (HSB), originally Strictly Bluegrass, is an annual free and non-commercial music festival held the first weekend of October in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco, California. Conceived and subsidized by San Francisco venture capitalist Warren Hellman, the festival has been held every year since the first event in 2001. From its outset, the festival has been subsidized by Hellman. Various corporations have offered to sponsor the event over the years, but Hellman always turned them down, saying in an interview, "I want to keep it entirely free and noncommercial". After his 2011 death, Hellman's heirs and his foundation have continued to fully fund and oversee the festival. For some performers, the unique fact that the event is unsponsored is very important to character. Outside Lands, formerly known as the Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival, is a three-day music, art, food, wine, beer and cannabis festival held annually in San Francisco's Golden Gate Park. The Beach Chalet is a historic two-story Spanish Colonial Revival architecture, Spanish Colonial Revival-style building, located at the far western end of Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. The building is owned by the San Francisco Recreation & Parks Department; and the tenants are the Beach Chalet Brewery and Restaurant, and the Park Chalet.
