Gjerstad is a municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the traditional region of Sørlandet, in the southeastern part of the county, along the border with Telemark county. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Gjerstad. Other villages in the municipality include Ausland, Eikeland, Fiane, Gryting, Østerholt, Rød, Sundebru, and Vestøl. Gjerstad Church
Gjerstad Church (, locally: ''Gjerstad kjørke'') is a parish church of the Church of Norway in Gjerstad Municipality in Agder county, Norway. It is located in the village of Gjerstad. It is the church for the Gjerstad parish which is part of the Aust-Nedenes prosti (deanery) in the Diocese of Agder og Telemark. The white, wooden church was built in a long church design in 1848 by Lars Listøl using plans by the architect Christian H. Grosch. The church seats about 500 people. History The earliest existing historical records of the church date back to the year 1400 (''Gerikstadir Kirkje''), but the church was likely founded around the year 1300. The first church was a stave church located about to the southeast of the present location. Agder
Agder is a counties of Norway, county () and districts of Norway, traditional region in the southern part of Norway and is coextensive with the Southern Norway region.
