Gestalt Psychology
Gestalt psychology, gestaltism, or configurationism is a school of psychology and a theory of perception that emphasises the processing of entire patterns and configurations, and not merely individual components. It emerged in the early twentieth century in Austria and Germany as a rejection of basic principles of Wilhelm Wundt's and Edward Titchener's elementalist and structuralist psychology. Gestalt psychology is often associated with the adage, "The whole is greater than the sum of its parts". In Gestalt theory, information is perceived as wholes rather than disparate parts which are then processed summatively. As used in Gestalt psychology, the German word ''Gestalt'' ( , ; meaning "form") is interpreted as "pattern" or "configuration". Gestalt therapy is a form of psychotherapy that emphasizes Responsibility assumption, personal responsibility and focuses on the individual's experience in the present moment, the therapist–client relationship, the environmental and social contexts of a person's life, and the self-regulating adjustments people make as a result of their overall situation. It was developed by Fritz Perls, Laura Perls and Paul Goodman (writer), Paul Goodman in the 1940s and 1950s, and was first described in the 1951 book ''Gestalt Therapy (book), Gestalt Therapy''. The Spill Canvas is an American alternative rock band from Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Known for their hits "All Over You," "All Hail the Heartbreaker" and "Polygraph, Right Now!", as well as several emo classics like "Our Song," "The Tide" and "This Is for Keeps." Career Lead singer and guitarist Nick Thomas (born May 25, 1984) grew up in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and began learning how to play guitar at 11 years old. Thomas attended Roosevelt High School and sang with the school concert choir and men's choir. He began performing at local venues on his acoustic guitar at 15-years-old and self-released his first punk rock and acoustic CD titled ''The Blur of Motions'' in 2000 with Prairie Dog Studios. Thomas envisioned the Spill Canvas in the summer of 2001 as a collage of unique musical sounds and ideas coming together to form a unique palette. is an eight-volume fantasy manga series by Yun Kōga and published by Enix and later by Ichijinsha. It was adapted into a two-episode OVA series. Plot The story circulates around a mysterious and dangerous island referred to simply as "G". A long time ago, a powerful god named Gestalt was banished to the earth and he had found refuge in the island known as G. To utter the name for which it stands is forbidden, for people were so afraid of the wrath of the god that they considered his name a curse. Gestalt et Jive were a multinational avant-rock group founded in West Germany in 1984 by multi-instrumentalist Alfred Harth, comprising Steve Beresford ( UK), Anton Fier ( US), Alfred Harth (FRG), Peter Hollinger (FRG), Ferdinand Richard ( F) and Uwe Schmitt (FRG). In 1980 Harth produced the LP ''Es herrscht Uhu im Land'' on JAPO/ ECM with the idea of integrating punk rock, free jazz and classical music and followed this design throughout the 1980s in the groups Cassiber, Duck and Cover, ''Gestalt et Jive'' and Vladimir Estragon. During the years 1984 – 1988 ''Gestalt et Jive'' performed on many festivals including the Moers Festival, Jazz nad Odrą, Musique Action festival in Vendouvre-les Nancy and Festival International de Musique Actuelle de Victoriaville in Canada. A hive mind, group mind, group ego, mind coalescence, or gestalt intelligence in science fiction is a plot device in which multiple minds, or consciousnesses, are linked into a single collective consciousness or intelligence. Overview This term may be used interchangeably with hive mind. "Hive mind" tends to describe a group mind in which the linked individuals have no identity or free will and are possessed or mind-controlled as extensions of the hive mind. Gestalt Publishing is an Australian independent graphic novel publishing house. They primarily publish Australian graphic novelists, and have an ethos of supporting and developing emerging talent. History The company was officially founded in Applecross, Western Australia, in 2005 by Wolfgang Bylsma and Skye Ogden, although they had previously been involved in creating, editing and publishing underground and editorial comics since the early-1990s.
