Individuals
An individual is one that exists as a distinct entity. Individuality (or self-hood) is the state or quality of living as an individual; particularly (in the case of humans) as a person unique from other people and possessing one's own needs or goals, rights and responsibilities. The concept of an individual features in many fields, including biology, law, and philosophy. Every individual contributes significantly to the growth of a civilization. Society is a multifaceted concept that is shaped and influenced by a wide range of different things, including human behaviors, attitudes, and ideas. The culture, morals, and beliefs of others as well as the general direction and trajectory of the society can all be influenced and shaped by an individual's activities. Ernst Moritz Arndt
Ernst Moritz Arndt (26 December 1769 – 29 January 1860) was a German nationalist historian, writer and poet. Early in his life, he fought for the abolition of serfdom, later against Napoleonic dominance over Germany. Arndt had to flee to Sweden for some time due to his anti-French positions. He is one of the main founders of German nationalism during the Napoleonic wars and the 19th century movement for German unification. After the Carlsbad Decrees, the forces of the restoration counted him as a demagogue. Arndt played an important role for the early national and liberal Burschenschaft movement and for the unification movement, and his song " Was ist des Deutschen Vaterland?" acted as an unofficial German national anthem. Long after his death, his anti-French propaganda was used again, in both World Wars. Marcel Beyer
Marcel Beyer (born 23 November 1965) is a German writer. Life Marcel Beyer was born in Tailfingen, Württemberg, and grew up in Kiel and Neuss. From 1987 to 1991, he studied German studies, German language and literature, English studies and literary studies at the University of Siegen; in 1992, he obtained a Magister (degree), Magister degree with a work on Friederike Mayröcker. Since 1987, he has developed performance art. Since 1989, he published, with Karl Riha, the series ''Vergessene Autoren der Moderne'' (Forgotten Modernist Authors) at the University of Siegen. From 1990 to 1993, he worked as editor on the literary magazine ''Konzepte''; from 1992 to 1998, he was a contributor to the music magazine '' Spex (magazine), Spex''. Konrad Bayer
Konrad Bayer (17 December 1932 – October 1964) was an Austrian writer and poet. A member of the Wiener Gruppe, he combined apparently irreconcilable elements—violence, hermeticism, pessimism, ecstasy, banality—and influences (dadaism, surrealism, pataphysics, Wittgenstein, Stirner, Sade et al.)—into a bizarre linguistic solipsism which has held increasing fascination for German writers of the last few decades. His most important works are the novels ''Der Kopf des Vitus Bering'' (The Head of Vitus Bering) and ''Der sechste Sinn'' (The Sixth Sense), published posthumously in 1965 and 1966, respectively. Bayer committed suicide in October 1964 at the age of 31. Bernd Alois Zimmermann included his poetry in his ''Requiem für einen jungen Dichter'' (''Requiem for a Young Poet''), completed in 1969. Kerstin Becker
Kerstin Becker (born 14 March 1969 in Frankenberg, East Germany) is a German writer and poet. Work and life Kerstin Becker was raised in Moosheim und Hainichen in Saxony. She worked as a typesetter and cemetery florist amongst others. In the late 1980s, Becker was under surveillance by the authorities of the GDR and arrests were carried out due to so-called "anti-state actions". In the late 1990s, Becker took courses in creative writing. Since 2001, she works as a freelance writer, editor and lector. She mainly writes poems and children's books. Until 2019, she was also co-editor of the Dresden based literary magazine ''Ostragehege''. Becker's poetry has been published in numerous literary magazines and anthologies, nationally as well as internationally. Her poems have been translated into several languages, including American English, Czech, Serbian and Arabic. Wolfgang Bauer (writer)
Wolfgang Bauer (18 March 1941 – 26 August 2005) was an Austrian writer best known as a playwright who, particularly in his younger days, was regarded as an ''enfant terrible'' by the Austrian cultural establishment. Life and career Bauer was born in Graz, Styria. His breakthrough play was '' Magic Afternoon'' in 1967, in which he portrays four youths who interrupt their lazy and boring afternoon by unmotivated outbreaks of violence and aggression (''Magic Afternoon'' was adapted for the screen most recently by Catherine Jelski in 2000 as '' The Young Unknowns''). After two more successes, ''Change'' (1969) and ''Gespenster'' (''Ghosts'', 1973), Bauer's plays became increasingly surreal and experimental. Hugo Ball
Hugo Ball (; 22 February 1886 – 14 September 1927) was a German author, poet, and essentially the founder of the Dada movement in European art in Zürich in 1916. Among other accomplishments, he was a pioneer in the development of sound poetry. Ingeborg Bachmann
Ingeborg Bachmann (; 25 June 1926 – 17 October 1973) was an Austrian poet and author. She is regarded as one of the major voices of German-language literature in the 20th century. In 1963, she was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature by German philologist Harald Patzer. Early life and education Bachmann was born in Klagenfurt, in the Austrian state of Carinthia, the daughter of Olga (née Haas) and Matthias Bachmann, a schoolteacher. Her father was an early member of the Austrian National Socialist Party. She had a sister, Isolde, and a brother, Heinz. She studied philosophy, psychology, German philology, and law at the universities of Innsbruck, Graz, and Vienna. Rose Ausländer
Rose Ausländer (born Rosalie Beatrice Scherzer; May 11, 1901 – January 3, 1988) was a Jewish poet writing in German and English. Born in Czernowitz in the Bukovina, she lived through its tumultuous history of belonging to the Austro-Hungarian Empire, Kingdom of Romania, and eventually the Soviet Union. Rose Ausländer spent her life in several countries: Austria-Hungary, Romania, the United States, and West Germany. Count Anton Alexander Von Auersperg
Count Anton Alexander von Auersperg, also known under the name Anastasius Grün (11 April 180612 September 1876), was an Austrian poet and liberal politician from Carniola, a former Habsburg crown land in today's Slovenia. Early life He was born in Laibach (Ljubljana), and was head of the Thurn am Hart/Krain branch of the Carniolan line of the House of Auersperg. Anton Alexander was the only child of his parents, Count Alexander Maria Josef Riegfried Joachim von Auersperg (1770-1818) and his wife, Baroness Maria Rosalia Cecilia von Billichgrätz zu Baumkircherthurm und Hilzenegkh (1786-1836). Hartmann Von Aue
Hartmann von Aue, also known as Hartmann von Ouwe, (born ''c.'' 1160–70, died ''c.'' 1210–20) was a German knight and poet. With his works including '' Erec'', '' Iwein'', '' Gregorius'', and '' Der arme Heinrich'', he introduced the Arthurian romance into German literature and, with Wolfram von Eschenbach and Gottfried von Strassburg, was one of the three great epic poets of Middle High German literature. Life Hartmann belonged to the lower nobility of Swabia, where he was born. After receiving a monastic education, he became retainer (''Dienstmann'') of a nobleman whose domain, Aue, has been identified with Obernau on the River Neckar. He also took part in the Crusade of 1197. Hans Erasmus Aßmann
Hans Erasmus Aßmann, Freiherr von Abschatz (4 February 1646 – 22 April 1699) was a German statesman and poet from the second Silesian school. Life Abschatz was born at Würbitz ( Wierzbnica) in Lower Silesia in the Bohemian crown lands of the Holy Roman Empire. Even though his parents died early, Abschatz attended college in Liegnitz and then studied law at the universities of Strasbourg and Leyden. This was followed by a three-year travel to Belgium, France, and Italy. Returning to Silesia at the age of 23, he assumed the administration of his estate and married Anna von Hund in 1669. His financial condition was favourable and his private life fortunate, only disturbed by the death of few close relatives.
