Georgian Diaspora
The Georgian diaspora refers to both historical and present emigration from Georgia. The countries with the largest Georgian communities outside Georgia are Turkey and Russia. The Georgian diaspora, or the dispersion of Georgian people outside of Georgia, began to take shape during various historical periods. However, a significant wave of emigration occurred during the 19th and 20th centuries, particularly during times of political upheaval, such as the Russian Empire's expansion into the Caucasus region and the Soviet era. Anna Chakvetadze
Anna Djambuliovna Chakvetadze ( ; born 5 March 1987) is a Russian former professional tennis player. In her career, Chakvetadze won eight WTA Tour singles titles. She reached her highest singles ranking of world No. 5 in September 2007, after reaching the US Open semifinals. She also made the quarterfinals of the Australian Open and French Open that same year. She announced her retirement on 11 September 2013, due to a persisting back injury. She is currently a commentator on the Eurosport channel. Nikolay Maximovich Tsiskaridze PAR (; ka, ნიკოლოზ ცისკარიძე, ''Nik'oloz Cisk'aridze'') is a Georgian-Russian ballet dancer who had been a member of the Bolshoi Ballet for 21 years (1992–2013). Biography Early years Nikolay Tsiskaridze was born in Tbilisi, Soviet Georgia in 1973. He was the first-born child of Lamara Nikolayevna Tsiskaridze, who was 42 years old when he was born. He grew up without knowing his father. His mother was a physicist, and she worked at Obninsk Nuclear Power Plant, then as a teacher at Tbilisi public school №162. Anna Dogonadze
Anna Dogonadze ( ka, ანა დოღონაძე; born February 15, 1973) is a German trampoline gymnast of Georgian origin who won a gold medal in the event of trampolining at the 2004 Summer Olympics. She was born on 15 February 1973 in Mtskheta, Georgian SSR, (present day Georgia). Prior to Georgian independence, she competed for the Soviet Union, and afterwards represented Georgia in international competition. Dogonadze became a German citizen after marrying a German national. They live in Bad Kreuznach, Germany, with their daughter Mariam. By profession, Dogonadze is a teacher. Dogonadze's career highlight was her Olympic win in 2004, which followed a disastrous final in the Sydney Olympics four years earlier. Lasha Darbaidze (born January 23, 1969) is a Georgian-born American citizen who holds the positions of Honorary Consul of Georgia since 2010, and President of the St. George Foundation since 2004. Early life Darbaidze graduated from the Physical Mathematical School (Komarov) and then earned engineering, classics and philosophy degrees at the Georgian Technical University, both in the capital Tbilisi. He served in the Soviet military where he earned the rank of Chief Lieutenant and obtained experience in military administration management. David Chavchavadze (May 20, 1924 – October 5, 2014) was a British-born American author and a former Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) officer of Georgian-Russian origin. Life and death Chavchavadze was born in London to Prince Paul Chavchavadze (1899–1971) and Princess Nina Georgievna of Russia (Romanov) (1901–1974), a descendant of a prominent Georgian noble family and the Imperial Russian dynasty. His father, Prince Paul, was a fiction writer and translator of writings from Georgian into English, and an émigré in the United Kingdom, and then the United States. Synetic Theater is a non-profit physical theater company located in the Washington metropolitan area. It performs at the Crystal City Theatre in Crystal City in Arlington County, Virginia. Since its founding in 2001, its productions have received numerous awards.
