''The Gates'' was a site-specific work of art by Bulgarian artist Christo Yavacheff and French artist Jeanne-Claude, known jointly as Christo and Jeanne-Claude. The artists installed 7,503 steel " gates" along of pathways in Central Park in New York City. From each gate hung a panel of deep saffron-colored nylon fabric. The exhibit ran from February 12 through February 27, 2005. In the books and other memorabilia distributed by the artists, the project is called ''The Gates, Central Park, New York, 1979–2005,'' alluding to the time that passed between the artists' initial proposal and its installation. ''The Gates'' was greeted with mixed reactions. Gates (band)
Gates (stylized as gates) is a five-piece American post rock band from New Brunswick, New Jersey, which consists of Kevin Ann Dye (vocals/guitars), Dan King (guitars), Mike Maroney (bass), Ethan Koozer (guitars) and Daniel Crapanzano (drums). They have released two albums and three EPs. Career Gates formed in 2011 while the various band members had settled in New Jersey. Koozer (ex Lydia), moved from Arizona while King, Maroney and Crapanzano were in the band Bears & Bright Lights. Koozer joined the band and Dye replaced the original singer, prompting the name change to Gates. Originally from Michigan, Dye moved to Brooklyn in 2010 after earning a degree in Telecommunication, Information Studies and Media. Cheryl Gates McFadden (born March 2, 1949) is an American actress and choreographer. She is usually credited as Cheryl McFadden when working as a choreographer and Gates McFadden when working as an actress. She played Dr. Beverly Crusher in the television series '' Star Trek: The Next Generation'', its four subsequent films, the sequel series '' Star Trek: Picard'', and '' Star Trek: Prodigy''. Gates is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The town is named after General Horatio Gates. The population was 29,167 at the 2020 census. Gates and North Gates are census-designated places within the town. It is a suburb of Rochester. History The town of Gates was organized in 1797 as "Northampton" in Ontario County. In 1808 the town was subdivided, and the part still called Northampton was renamed "Gates" and incorporated on April 1, 1813, in honor of General Horatio Gates. In 1821 Monroe County was formed, including the town of Gates. Parts of the town were later detached to form the city of Rochester and the town of Greece, both of which now border the town. William James "Gates" Brown (May 2, 1939 – September 27, 2013) was an American Major League Baseball left fielder who spent his entire career with the Detroit Tigers (1963–1975). He batted left-handed and threw right-handed. Early life Brown was born in 1939 in Crestline, Ohio. He attended Crestline High School and played tailback for the school's football team. Brown also played baseball in Pony League, American Legion, sandlot and high school competition. He played at the catcher position, a position his father had also played. After his sophomore year, Brown "got in with the wrong crowd" and spent his junior year at the Boys Industrial School for juvenile offenders in Lancaster, Ohio.
