Francis Patrick Garvan
Francis Patrick Garvan (June 13, 1875 – November 7, 1937) was an American lawyer, government official, and long-time president of the Chemical Foundation, Inc. The Chemical Foundation was established to administer in the public interest 4,500 German patents associated with production of synthetic organic chemicals and related pharmaceuticals seized by the Office of Alien Property Custodian after American entry into World War I, the US entered World War I. Biography Garvan was born June 13, 1875, in East Hartford, Connecticut. He graduated from Yale University in 1897 (Bachelor of Arts, A.B.) and from New York Law School in 1899 (Bachelor of Laws, LL.B.). He had a career as a lawyer, and then served from 1900 to 1910 as an Assistant District Attorney in New York City. Owen Garvan
Owen William Garvan (born 29 January 1988) is an Irish former professional footballer who played as a midfielder. Garvan began his career in his native Ireland where he played for Home Farm as a schoolboy. He earned a move to England with Ipswich Town in 2004, where he helped his side to the FA Youth Cup Final in 2005. He made his professional debut in the 2005–06 season and went on to make 174 appearances for the club, scoring 15 goals. After falling out of favour under Ipswich manager Roy Keane, Garvan moved to Crystal Palace in 2010. Garvan was a member of the Crystal Palace side that earned promotion to the Premier League in 2013 following a 1–0 win over Watford in the play-off final. He made a handful of Premier League appearances, but was eventually loaned out to Millwall during the same season, and then Bolton Wanderers the following season. Garvan Woodland Gardens is a 210-acre (85 ha) botanical garden and woodland garden located at 550 Arkridge Road, approximately 6 miles from Hot Springs National Park in Hot Springs, Arkansas, United States. Owned by the University of Arkansas, it has the stated mission of education, research and public service. Verna Cook Garvan (1910-1993) was a business woman and philanthropist in the state of Arkansas. Her main business holdings included the Wisconsin & Arkansas Lumber Company, and Malvern Brick and Tile Company. She is the founder and benefactor of Garvan Woodland Gardens in Hot Springs, Arkansas. Early life Garvan was born Verna Cook in Groveton, Texas, in 1910. She was the daughter of Arthur Bacillus Cook and Essie Louise Bordis Cook, and had one sister, Dorothy. The Cook family relocated to Malvern, Arkansas, in 1916, where the girls were primarily raised. Arthur Cook managed the Wisconsin & Arkansas Lumber Company and later Malvern Brick and Tile, and consequently exposed Verna to business matters at a young age. Noel Garvan
Noel Garvan is a former inter-county Gaelic footballer from County Laois. He plays for the St Joseph's GAA (Laois), St Joseph's club. He usually played at midfield for Laois and played a huge part in 2003 when Laois ended the 57-year wait for the Leinster Senior Football Championship title. Garvan emerged on to the scene in 1996 as part of the Laois minor team that won the All-Ireland Minor Football Championship title. Son of Tommy Garvan, himself no mean operator on a football field, Noel Garvan caught the eye with his spectacular high fielding as a minor and quickly progressed through the ranks picking up a Leinster U21 Football Championship medal in 1998 before adding a Sigerson Cup title to his honours list in 1999 when he also won the Player of the Tournament award with IT Tralee.
