Galmudug
Galmudug (; ), officially Galmudug State of Somalia (), is a States and regions of Somalia, Federal Member State in central Somalia, with its capital at Dhusamareb. It is bordered to the north by the Puntland state of Somalia, to the west by the Somali Region in Ethiopia, to the east by the Indian Ocean and to the south by the Hirshabelle state of Somalia. Consisting of the Galgaduud region and Mudug region, Galmudug's name is derived from a conflation of the names of the two regions. Galmudug is a federal state within the larger Somalia, Federal Republic of Somalia, as defined by the Constitution of Somalia, provisional constitution of Somalia. Location Galmudug is the most centrally located area in Somalia. It is situated about 750 km from Mogadishu, Bosaso and Harar in Ethiopia. Ahmed Abdi Karie
Ahmed Abdi Karie, nicknamed "Qoor Qoor" (), is a Somali politician who serves as the current President of Galmudug state. He assumed office on 2 February 2020. He was born in Hobyo, Somalia, on October 10, 1968. He is Habargidir Hawiye clan. He attended school and later moved to Mogadishu in his early years, where he studied at the Science College. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) and subsequently worked for his father's business. Career Galmudug politics Prior to becoming Galmudug's president, Karie was the minister of state for the ministry of public works, reconstruction and public-housing of the federal government of Somalia. His assumption of the office of president is the first time Karie has held any office within Galmudug's government. Dusmareb (, , ) is the capital of Galmudug state in central Somalia. The city also serves as the administrative capital of the Galguduud province. Historically, the city was known as Daar Dheer or simply Dardher but later in time the city's name changed to Dusamareb also spelled Dhusamareb. Demographics As of 2016 the broader Dusmareb District had a population of 390,407 inhabitants. The city's population is from the Hiraab, Habar Gidir of Hawiye sub-clan. Education There are many universities located across the city, the most prominent one being Dusmareb University which provides undergraduate degrees. Mudug
Mudug () is an administrative region ('' gobol'') in north-central Somalia. The population of Mudug is 131,455 as of 2005. Overview Physiographically, Mudug is bordered to the west by Ethiopia, to the north and south by the Somali regions of Nugal and Galguduud respectively, and to the east by the Indian Ocean. The provincial capital is Galkayo. The northern half of Mudug is part of Puntland whilst the southern half including the region of Galgaduud have formed the Galmudug State, which considers itself an autonomous state within the larger Federal Republic of Somalia, as defined by the provisional constitution of Somalia. Galgaduud
Galguduud (, , or ''Ghelgudud'') is an administrative region ('' gobol'') of Galmudug state in central Somalia. Its administrative capital is Dusmareb. The largest town in the region is El Buur, which lies at the centre of the region. Galguduud is bordered by Ethiopia, the Somali regions of Mudug; Hiran, Middle Shebelle (Shabeellaha Dhexe), and the Indian Ocean. The largest clan in this region is The Hawiye specially the Murusade subclan. With the Abgaal, and Habar Gidir subclans also being prominent. Puntland
Puntland is an autonomous state that considers itself to be part of Somalia, despite not accepting the legitimacy of Somalia's current governing administration. It was formed in 1998, and was a federal member state of Somalia from its founding until 2024. Puntland is located northeast of Somalia and east of Somaliland.
