Greene King is a British pub and brewing company founded in 1799, currently based in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk. The company also owns brands including Hungry Horse and Farmhouse Inns, as well as other pubs, restaurants and hotels. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange (LSE), until it was acquired by CK Assets in October 2019. Spirit Pub Company plc (Spirit) was a pub and restaurant company in the United Kingdom based in Burton upon Trent and originally formed by Punch Taverns. It was listed on the London Stock Exchange until it was acquired by Greene King in June 2015. History Spirit Group was originally formed by Punch Taverns in February 1999 to operate its managed pub estate including pubs acquired from Allied Domecq. Loch Fyne Restaurants was the name of a chain of seafood restaurants in the United Kingdom owned and operated by Greene King plc. History The company took its name from Loch Fyne, a sea loch on the west coast of Scotland. The business started life as part of Loch Fyne Oysters but, in September 2006, the restaurant chain (then comprising 36 restaurants) was bought by Greene King for £68 million. Loch Fyne Oysters continues in business under separate ownership; it owns the "Loch Fyne" brand and supplied much of the seafood used by the restaurant chain. Kimberley Brewery
The Kimberley Brewery, also known as Hardy & Hanson's Brewery or Hardys & Hansons, was the oldest independent brewery in the English county of Nottinghamshire, and has a heritage dating from 1832. It was originally two adjoining but independent breweries, Hardy's Brewery and Hanson's Brewery, which merged in 1930. The brewery ceased brewing in December 2006. Samuel Robinson opened the first commercial brewery in Kimberley, Nottinghamshire, Kimberley in 1832. It was located in a rented bake-house using water from the Alley Spring in what is now called Hardy Street. Stephen Hanson meanwhile built his brewery on nearby Brewery Street in 1847, also using water from the Alley Spring. Belhaven Brewery is a brewery based in Belhaven, Scotland, Belhaven, Scotland. The brewery dates from 1719, at least; by 2005 it had become the largest and oldest surviving independent brewery in Scotland. Ridley's Brewery is a defunct brewery. It was founded in 1842, and was located in Hartford End, Essex. In August 2002 the company bought out the Tolly Cobbold brewery. Then, in 2005 Ridley's was bought by Greene King for £45.6 million closing its operations at Hartford End and Braintree and dropping of rivaling beers to their own brands.
