Forge FC
Forge FC, also known as Forge Football Club, Forge FC Hamilton, or Hamilton Forge FC, is a Canadian professional Association football, soccer club based in Hamilton, Ontario, that competes in the Canadian Premier League, the top tier of Canadian soccer. The club plays its home matches at Hamilton Stadium. Forge FC joined the CPL in 2019 Canadian Premier League season, 2019 as one of the league's seven inaugural teams. The club is four-time CPL champions, winning back-to-back league titles in 2019 Forge FC season, 2019 and 2020 Forge FC season, 2020, before doing the same in 2022 Forge FC season, 2022 and 2023 Forge FC season, 2023. Forge was the first CPL side to compete in a continental competition when it played in the 2019 CONCACAF League, and the first to compete in the highest tier of continental competition in the 2022 CONCACAF Champions League. Hamilton Stadium (originally Tim Hortons Field) is a multi-purpose stadium in Hamilton, Ontario, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. Completed in 2014 with a capacity of 22,500, it was built as a replacement on the same site as the previous stadium, named Ivor Wynne Stadium, which had been there since 1930. It is primarily used for Canadian football and soccer, and is the home of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats of the Canadian Football League and Forge FC of the Canadian Premier League, amongst other teams. 2020 Canadian Championship
The 2020 Canadian Championship was the thirteenth edition of Canada's national soccer cup tournament, awarding the Voyageurs Cup. It was held as a final between one representative each from Major League Soccer and the Canadian Premier League. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, a larger knockout tournament was to be held from June 16 to September 24, 2020, between twelve teams. The twelve teams originally planned to participate were the three MLS clubs, seven Canadian Premier League clubs, and the champions of League1 Ontario and Première ligue de soccer du Québec. The city of Ottawa had looked to be absent for the first time since 2013, with Ottawa Fury FC having suspended operations in late 2019, and Atlético Ottawa having joined the Canadian Premier League after the original draw had been finalized. York United Football Club (formerly known as York9 FC) is a Canadian professional soccer club based in Toronto, Ontario. The club competes in the Canadian Premier League and plays its home games at York University's York Lions Stadium. Canadian Premier League Inaugural Match
The Canadian Premier League inaugural match was the first soccer match in the history of the Canadian Premier League (CPL). It was played April 27, 2019, in Hamilton, Ontario, before 17,611 fans between Forge FC and York9 FC (now known as York United FC). It was the first match of the 905 Derby. The match ended as a 1–1 draw. Ryan Telfer scored the CPL's first goal for York9 in the 3rd minute; Forge substitute Kadell Thomas equalized for Forge in the 78th minute. Background The Canadian Premier League (CPL) was approved and sanctioned by the Canadian Soccer Association as a tier 1 league on May 6, 2017.
