Early life Robert George Victor FitzGeorge-Balfour was born on 15 September 1913 at Knightsbridge, London. He was the son of Robert Shekelton Balfour and Mabel Iris FitzGeorge. Richard Fitzgeorge de Stacpoole, 1st '' Duc'' de Stacpoole (16 August 1787 – 7 July 1848) was an Anglo-French Catholic aristocrat and member of the French peerage. The son of George Stacpoole, 1st '' Comte'' Stacpoole (created by letters patent of Louis XVIII of France on 21 July 1818), and Catherine Gingell, he did his catechism at St Patrick's Church, Soho Square, attended Rugby School, and studied at Christ Church, Oxford (though left without a degree). On his father's death he inherited half of his estate (per the practice of the French courts), taking as ''Vicomte'' de Stacpoole the French peerage title of 2nd ''Comte'' Stacpoole on 25 March 1824. George FitzGeorge Hamilton
George Edward Archibald Augustus FitzGeorge Hamilton (30 December 1898 – 18 May 1918) was a British Army officer during the First World War and a distant relative of the British royal family. He was the only son of Sir Archibald Hamilton, 5th Baronet and Olga FitzGeorge, and was the heir to the Hamilton baronetcies of Trebinshun House and Marlborough House. FitzGeorge Hamilton's godparents were his great-grandfather, Prince George, Duke of Cambridge, and the Duke and Duchess of York (later titled as George V and Queen Mary). His parents divorced in 1902, and during his adolescence he attended Hawtreys, Winchester College, and the Royal Military College, Sandhurst. Sarah Fairbrother (calling herself ''Louisa'' and known from 1859 as ''Mrs FitzGeorge''; 31 October 1814 – 12 January 1890) was an English actress and the mistress of Prince George, Duke of Cambridge, a male-line grandson of George III. As the couple married in contravention of the Royal Marriages Act 1772, their marriage was not recognised under the law.
