The spouse of the governor of North Carolina is given an honorary position, styled as First Lady or First Gentleman of the State of North Carolina. Anna Harris Stein
Anna Harris Stein is an American lawyer, public health official, and civic leader. Between 2011 and 2024, she worked as a legal advisor for the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services. On January 1, 2025, as the wife of Governor Josh Stein, she became the first lady of North Carolina. In April 2025, she was appointed to the North Carolina Joint Reentry Council by the North Carolina Secretary of Adult Correction. Albemarle Settlements
The Albemarle Settlements were the first permanent England, English settlements in what is now North Carolina, founded in the Albemarle Sound and Roanoke River regions, beginning about the middle of the 17th century. The settlers were mainly Virginia, Virginians, migrating south. John White (colonist And Artist)
John White (–) was an English colonial governor, explorer, artist, and cartographer. White was among those who sailed with Richard Grenville in the first attempt to colonize Roanoke Island in 1585, acting as artist and mapmaker to the expedition. He would most famously briefly serve as the governor of the second attempt to found Roanoke Colony on the same island in 1587 and discover the colonists had mysteriously vanished. During his time at Roanoke Island, he made several watercolor sketches of the surrounding landscape and the native Algonkin peoples. These works are significant as they are the most informative illustrations of a Native American society of the Eastern seaboard; the surviving original watercolors are now preserved in the print room of the British Museum. Fort Raleigh National Historic Site preserves the location of Roanoke Colony, the first English settlement in the present-day United States. The site was preserved for its national significance in relation to the founding of the first English settlement in North America, resettled in 1587 after it was initially in 1585. The Roanoke Colony ( ) refers to two attempts by Sir Walter Raleigh to found the first permanent English settlement in North America. The first colony was established at Roanoke Island in 1585 as a military outpost, and was evacuated in 1586. Joshua Harold Stein (born September 13, 1966) is an American lawyer and politician who has served as the 76th List of governors of North Carolina, governor of North Carolina since 2025.
