Excel (band)
Excel is a crossover thrash band from Venice, California, Venice, California, founded by singer Dan Clements and guitarist Adam Siegel in 1983. They were influenced by early punk rock bands like the Germs (band), Germs and Black Flag (band), Black Flag, as well as heavy metal bands like Black Sabbath, Trouble (band), Trouble, Slayer, Corrosion of Conformity and Cryptic Slaughter. Being influenced by street art, Excel is also known for graffiti, spray painting on the streets of the cities where they make their tours, hence why there are many different logos of the band. Excel came out of the West Side Los Angeles crossover thrash scene as did many others in California like No Mercy (metal band), No Mercy, Beowülf, Suicidal Tendencies and Cryptic Slaughter. Venice, California
Venice is a neighborhood of the City of Los Angeles within the Westside region of Los Angeles County, California, United States. Venice was founded by Abbot Kinney in 1905 as a seaside resort town. The Joke's On You
''The Joke's on You'' is the second album by Excel, released in 1989. This album saw the band mix their crossover trash sound with influences coming from different genres, including punk, hip-hop, funk, doom metal and traditional thrash metal, and it is also driven by grooves, with '' Far Out'' calling the introduction to the track "Tapping into the Emotional Void" an early example of groove metal. ''The Joke's on You'' is also the last Excel album recorded with two of the "classic" lineup members, Adam Siegel (guitar) and Greg Saenz (drums). Following their departure, Excel's music would take a different direction on their next album, 1995's '' Seeking Refuge''. Formed in 1983 under the name Legacy, the band's current lineup includes rhythm guitarist Eric Peterson, lead vocalist Chuck Billy, lead guitarist Alex Skolnick, bassist Steve Di Giorgio and drummer Chris Dovas.
