Eurovision Song Contest 1996
The Eurovision Song Contest 1996 was the 41st edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, held on 18 May 1996 at the in Oslo, Norway. Organised by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) and host broadcaster (NRK) and presented by Ingvild Bryn and Morten Harket, the contest was held in Norway following the country's victory at the with the song "" by Secret Garden (duo), Secret Garden. Thirty countries submitted entries to the contest, with a non-public, audio-only qualifying round held two months before the final to reduce the number of participants from 30 to 23. The entries from , , , , , , and were subsequently eliminated, which resulted in Germany being absent from the contest for the first – and as of 2025 - only time. The winner was with the song "The Voice (Eimear Quinn song), The Voice", written by Brendan Graham and performed by Eimear Quinn. Ingvild Bryn
Ingvild Bryn (born 18 March 1961) is a Norwegian journalist. She is a news anchor for the evening news '' Dagsrevyen'', aired on the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Biography She started as a news anchor in 1990, was then a correspondent in Washington, D.C. from 1996 to 1999 before returning to her post. She was, together with Morten Harket, the official presenter of the Eurovision Song Contest 1996. She has education from the Volda University College and the University of Oslo. She is a proponent of Nynorsk and received the Nynorsk User of the Year award in 2012. She hails from Voss. Her sister is a Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation journalist. Nobel Peace Prize Concert
The Nobel Peace Prize Concert ( Norwegian and Swedish: '')'' has been held annually since 1994 on 11 December to honour the Nobel Peace Prize laureate. The award ceremony on 10 December takes place in Oslo City Hall, while the concert has been held at Oslo Spektrum, with the attendance of the laureate and other prominent guests. The Concert is broadcast to a global audience and reaches up to 350 million households in 100 countries. In 2015 the concert venue was moved from Oslo Spektrum to the much larger Telenor Arena. The concert was held there until it was cancelled in 2018, replaced by an outdoor Nobel Peace Party which was organised outside the Oslo City Hall. In 2021 the Concert was relaunched in collaboration with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, architectural firm Snøhetta and the Norwegian Broadcasting Corporation. Liefde Is Een Kaartspel
"Liefde is een kaartspel" (; "Love is a Card Game") was the entry in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996, performed in Dutch by Lisa del Bo. The song was performed seventeenth on the night, following the ' Maxine & Franklin Brown with " De eerste keer" and preceding 's Eimear Quinn with " The Voice". At the close of voting, it had received 22 points, placing 16th in a field of 23. The song features Del Bo likening love to a card game. She describes a relationship which appears not to have been based on honesty, which explains the metaphor. Lisa del Bo (born Reinhilde Goossens on 9 June 1961 in Mopertingen, Belgium) is a Belgian singer who is popular in her own country and also in Germany. Lisa del Bo is a Flemish singer who often sings in the Dutch language but has been known to record songs in other languages as well. She represented Belgium in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "Liefde is een kaartspel", where she came 16th. She recorded a duet with fellow Belgian Helmut Lotti. High Alemannic is a branch of Alemannic German spoken in the westernmost Austrian state of Vorarlberg and in Switzerland and Liechtenstein. Intelligibility of these dialects to non-Alemannic speakers tends to be limited. Miriam Christine
Miriam Christine Borg (born 30 June 1978) is a Maltese pop and rhythm and blues singer best known for representing in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996. She was born in Santo Antônio do Descoberto,a small city near Brasília in Brazil, but was adopted and raised on the Mediterranean island of Gozo. She took part in various singing festivals before winning the ''Song for Europe Festival'' and representing Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest 1996 with the song "In a Woman's Heart". On the night of the contest, held in Oslo, she was backed by 3 vocalists-one of whom was Georgina Abela, the wife of the composer and a former contestant. In the beginning of the voting Malta was among the top 5 but gradually fell to 10th place with 68 points. Georgina Abela
Georgina Abela (born 23 April 1959) is a Maltese singer and actress. She is best known for representing Malta in the Eurovision Song Contest on several occasions, either as an entrant, backing vocalist or songwriter. Career Abela began singing at a young age, and competed in children's festivals in her youth. As an adult, she started her singing career in the heavy metal and rock scene, continuing into the 1980s. In 1985, she gained exposure after singing in a TV show, and was able to perform in and clubs across Malta and festivals further afield. In 1991, Abela represented Malta at Eurovision, where she sang the duet "Could it be" with Paul Giordimaina. The duo came 6th in the competition. She returned to the contest the following year, this time as co-songwriter (with Raymond Mahoney) of Malta's song, "Little Child". Jan Werner Danielsen, known professionally as Jan Werner, (10 April 1976 – 28 September 2006) was a Norwegian pop singer, also known for his interpretations of musical, classical, and rock standards. Bobbysocks is a Norwegian pop duo consisting of Norwegian Hanne Krogh and Swedish-Norwegian Elisabeth Andreassen. They won the Eurovision Song Contest 1985 with the song "La det swinge" ("Let it swing"). Elisabeth went by the surname Andreasson until 1994. History 1980s The duo was formed in 1983. Both Krogh and Andreassen were frequent Eurovision contestants.
