EuroInternational Drivers
EuroInternational is a racing organization (which includes Italian division EuroInternational Srl and American division EuroInternational Inc.) owned by Antonio Ferrari. History Originally known as Euromotorsport, the team made its CART debut in 1989 with Jean-Pierre Frey at Phoenix. After Frey was unable to complete the USAC Rookie Orientation Program at Indianapolis, the team signed Davy Jones, who qualified for the Indianapolis 500 and finished in 7th place in his only appearance for the team that year. The team went on to compete in the CART Indy Car World Series, often fielding a number of European pay drivers, from 1989 to 1994. The team's best finish was 4th place in the 1993 Detroit Grand Prix by Andrea Montermini. The team attempted to qualify its drivers for the Indianapolis 500 a number of times, but only succeeded three times, with Davy Jones in 1989 and 1993 and Mike Groff in 1992. German Formula Three Championship
The German Formula Three Championship was the national Formula Three championship of Germany, and the former West Germany, from 1950 to 2002, then as Formel 3 until 2014. In 2003, the series had merged with the French Formula Three Championship to form the Formula 3 Euro Series. The lower-level series, the ATS Formel 3 Cup, subsequently operated in Germany, but it folded after the end of the 2014 season. 1995 IMSA GT Championship
The 1995 Exxon World Sports Car Championship and Supreme GT Series seasons were the 25th season of the IMSA GT Championship. It consisted of open-cockpit prototypes referred to as the World Sports Car (WSC) class and Grand Tourer-style racing cars divided into GTS-1 and GTS-2 classes. It lasted eleven rounds and began on February 4, 1995, and finished on October 8, 1995. Schedule Most races on the schedule had all three classes running together, while shorter events saw the classes separated into separate events of varying length. Jari Nurminen
Jari Nurminen (born 10 November 1961) is a Finnish racing driver from Helsinki. Racing career Formula cars Nurminen began his racing career racing Formula Vee cars in his native Finland. In 1983, he finished 3rd in the Finnish Formula Three Championship and competed in four German Formula Three Championship races. In 1984 and 1985, he finished fifth in German F3 in back-to-back years, capturing his first win in 1985. In 1986, he competed in a full season of International Formula 3000 with the EuroVenturini team but only managed to qualify for one of the eleven races, the season opener at Brands Hatch. He also did some tests for the Arrows Formula One team. Despite the disastrous 1986 campaign, Nurminen returned to the team and series in 1987. Mike Groff
Michael Dennis Groff (born November 16, 1961, in Van Nuys, California) is a former race car driver who competed in CART and the IRL IndyCar Series and was the 1989 Indy Lights champion. His younger brother Robbie was also a CART and IRL driver from 1994 to 1998. Racing career Formula Super Vee and Indy Lights Groff made his professional debut in 1984 competing in the Valvoline/Robert Bosche Formula Super Vee series. He finished third in the series in 1985 and second in 1986. In 1986 he also made his American Racing Series debut (later renamed Indy Lights). Driving for a family team, he captured wins at the Milwaukee Mile and Road America and finished third in points. In 1987 he won at Nazareth Speedway and finished fifth in points. The Indianapolis 500, formally known as the Indianapolis 500-Mile Race, and commonly shortened to Indy 500, is an annual automobile race held at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway in Speedway, Indiana, United States, an enclave suburb of Indianapolis. Andrea Montermini
Andrea Montermini (born 30 May 1964) is an Italian racing driver. He drove in Formula One from 1994 to 1996. Career Montermini raced in Formula 3 in 1989, taking second place in the List of Monaco Grand Prix Formula Three support race winners, Monaco GP support race and 4th in the Italian F3, Italian F3 Championship. Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix
The Detroit Grand Prix (currently branded as the Chevrolet Detroit Grand Prix presented by Lear Corporation for sponsorship reasons) is an IndyCar Series race weekend held on a temporary circuit in Detroit, Michigan. The race has been held from 1989 to 2001, 2007 to 2008, and since 2012. Since 2012, the event has been scheduled for the weekend immediately following the Indianapolis 500. The origins of the event date back to the Formula One Detroit Grand Prix on the Detroit street circuit. A pay driver is a driver for a professional auto racing team who, instead of being paid by the owner of their car, drives for free and brings with them either personal sponsorship or personal or family funding to finance the team's operations. This may be done to gain on-track experience or to live the lifestyle of a driver in a particular series when one's talent or credentials do not merit a paying ride. Alternatively, said person is also called a ride buyer or a rich kid in the United States, a gentleman driver in sports car and GT racing and a privateer in Australia. Davy Jones (racing Driver)
Davy Jones (born June 1, 1964) is an American racing driver. He won the 1996 24 Hours of Le Mans alongside Alexander Wurz and Manuel Reuter. Racing career In 1983 he came 3rd in the British Formula 3 International Series, British Formula Three Championship behind Ayrton Senna and Martin Brundle. He also that year tested the Brabham F1 car at Brands Hatch with Bernie Ecclestone, the then team owner, looking at Jones as the next American hope for F1 competition. Jean-Pierre Frey
Jean-Pierre Frey (born January 6, 1955) is a former Swiss racing driver from Baselgia, Medel (Lucmagn). He competed in full seasons of the FIA Formula 3000 Championship in 1986 and 1987 but failed to qualify for a single race in a time when the series was incredibly competitive. Frey went to the United States to race in two CART Championship Car races in 1988 for Dick Simon Racing and two more for Euromotorsport in 1989. He entered the 1989 Indianapolis 500 but his entry was declined due to a lack of experience. His best CART finish was 13th place in his debut at Laguna Seca Raceway.
